Loosing Clients, Bids, In Area Been Established In For Years!!

Not to sound raceist trying to confront and acknowledge this issue; in understanding if its just here, or if others are having same problems. Been in construction for past 25-30 years; never notice the increasing fly by night outsider visa allowed mexican families or crews, and some illegal with feloneys and/or outstanding warrent able to show up over night, walk on a jobsite or residance. An be allowed a job; not knowing experiance, lic., ins., or how many in crew or owner even legal; and out bid you!?
Example: Asked to bid job, spend many hours gathering prices, crews, subs, compile all paperwork & complete. Even been recommended to client by many others. Bid a commercial woodframed drywall job of approx. 2200 sq. ft. at .32; to hang 1/2"x8', 1/2"x12' greenboard, 5/8"x12'fireroc double layer inside & outter 160' wall floor to 16' ceiling peak. All to be mud, taped, small knock down. Clean up daily, trash off; all in three weeks. 3 days into job; dbl. firerock complete, 90% all bootom floor rock hung, and approx. 500-800 sq.ft. to finish. An for reason, unaware; GC shows up with a non-english speaking 6 man crew in beat up 70 model suburban he seen at a apartment complex working; and their leader walks around jobsite, 15 min. later GC hires them for .22 sq. ft. and hands me a check for $1000.00 and said our contract cancelled. I had cancelled, declined, jobs to have all 7-9 man crew to care of this; just to end up sitting, in debt, and caused the loss of 4 long time friend & employees.
They're probably 10-20 of these unannouced, motel living, unmarked decal, outta state tag vehicles; under bidding a lot of us permanent resident contractors being over come in flooring, painting, roofing, remodel/repair contractors wanna be, showing up daily; out of no where??
Anybody got same issues, answers, recommendations, etc.? I'm not only loosing jobs; I'm loosing 20+ yrs. of back breaking, struggled, sacrificed lively hood me & wife built from nothing. Now we're grandparents; plans of being settled, established business to leave for a better life for kids and grandkids, & to point of better credit and having paymentscoverd. To ruined credit, home foreclosure notices, and saleing of equipment, personals, & down to just me & wife to cover what little hand out/ no one else wants type jobs. Which is to point at which I started 20+ yrs. ago; except more crippled, older, & less able to complete jobs.

Sounds like chit to me. You need to go to the introductions section and put a little introduction about yourself for everyone

He gave you a grand and cancelled the contract? It sucks being under bid, but it seems to happen alot. Looks like that GC was just price shopping.

You do not have a "competition" problem about which you can do nothing. You do have a "client selection problem" about which you can do everything.

The term Racist has a very specific meaning, you should look it up.

So what does your lawyer have to say about what the GC did? Mine would be going after them for breach of contract with penalties.

So did you have a contract signed with him?

Happens everyday here and as time goes on gets worse and worse got nothing to do with being racist or clients. The new America you can call Ice (good luck) you can have a contract and get a lawyer$$$$ good luck or move on try to find ethical people to work for but in very short supply here.

Then I am glad I live in a small conservative rather close minded area that doesn't have to put up with much of that chit.

I think heeler007 must be putting us on. Nobody could possibly be that stupid. Right?
Contractor Talk has some very highly educated folk who post here and that reflects positively on the building industry. Unfortunately, that isn't always the case.

Re: Loosing Clients, Bids, In Area Been Established In For Years!!

Not too concerned with what you have to say now or in future; and apparently being where your located and that being all you had to commit bout out of all that.
You are apparently an illegal, and I'ld imagine if it wasn't for you just finishing enet tutor on icon purpose; you would not have been able to even type, spell, and now you run short of word knowledge, so you had to insert little cartoon faces.
As for your comment to racest I am; I grew up in trailer park were we was the only white ones in. An I went to catholic church, with my best friend, an family who practically raised me. And could speak better spanish then you could back then, and still speak an understand enough to know if my hands are ones I can trust. Theirs a differance in being racest toward MexLegals & MexIllegals: if they born, taxed, work and paying med. care, child care, & food; their more legal than most whites. As for the ones sneak over, acquire fake, forged citizenship doc., & credit; an allowed a loan to purchase a new vehicle, home, no tax; sneek rest family in home. Then it cost us increase in tax, med.care, leech us of funds: Foodstamps, Medical, Childcare,& steel jobs way cheeper just to send money back to home in mexico. Then when they get busted rapeing, drug smuggling, theft, stabbing, shooting, Drunk driveing:NoLic., Ins., Stolen car. Just get slapped on wrist, sent back, 2-3 days later back with complete different I.D. Yea; I am racest..as for my spelling; if we have to learn spanish to accomadate illegals ease of life in U.S., I faught, broke, bleed, sweated, sacrificed over half my life for country, I believe I earned the right to spell and come up with my own language. So; if your able to still understand all this, then your in complete understanding I could care less of any further input you have.
My appologies to rest of you that offerd your constructive knowledgable input and time. Short fuse for [email protected]!$ individuals..

Re: Loosing Clients, Bids, In Area Been Established In For Years!!

Yea; but with lack of experiance doing business with Big GC & Jobs; I'm old school with belief a hand shake and a mans word is solid; so when he declined signing our contract and presented their company/ sub-contract; I left it to partner to tend to while gatherd crew an got started. So; yea, I was an idiot, and after worthless lawyer fees, and $1000s spent to cover wages an exspences. And sale of bike, vehicle, equipment to cover losses; was a valuable lesson learned and a final decission to never contract to any big out of state GC. Did find out later; pretty much all the subs; metal building erectors, electricians, insulators, plumbers, heat/air was all ripped off and fighting for money owed. What I don't get; after all the liens filed against property, owners, GC; the oilfield co. uses the same GC to start new build of yard in N. Dakota? Also; was informed no matter after months, years, an money spent on legal fee, etc.; theirs still no gaurentee if awarded in court amount owed, that they will ever pay you. So; file it up as lesson learned and cut our losses. So; now after being ripped of by out of state contractor, got even more moving in cutting our throat on what work their is. If it wasn't for kids, grand kids here; I'ld done gave up, sold out, & moved away from any oilfield greedy state.

You learned lesson he hardway...
1... Always follow your gut
2... Never sacrifice your procedure/policy
3.. If someone refuses.. Argues.. Manipulates.. Avoids your requirements see 1 and 2..
4.. When you bid to be lowest til win.. Things are sure to go wrong..

I can go on.. But i want... Money and the need for it makes people do funny things..
We are all guilty.
I am sorry for the hard times you have come across.

I can tell you this.. Be wary of rogue GCs cold calling you of nowhere..
Chances are high that they already screwed someone else an is why they are looking.
Been there done that..

My comments are not against GCs on site or in general.. But the fact remains.

I recently had a GC not wan to give e his address.. I was like.. For real?
I walked..

You will see improvement 2017 as long as you can hold out
