Land Lines And Faxes///who Has Them?

I had to open a credit line with a supplier, and their credit dept called and wanted to know why I don't have a business phone number attached to a physical address......and of course, wanted to know why I have no business phone number listed anywhere???

Simple: I have had the same cell number for a lot of years...it is the only phone I answer. I do not have a fax...if I absolutely have to fax something, I drop by my lawyer's office. We get our mail at a post office box and our home both, but I usually always give the p.o. box when asked since I don't have an office. Also, I do have a land line, but it is unlisted, and the funny thing is, if that phone rings, it is ignored.....our phone company requires us to have a phone, even if we are on DSL.

So here is the latest curious question poll.....who still uses a land line, or fax, and are there others like me who are strictly cell phone or e-mail types? I even get sub's insurance certificates via e-mail and forward them to my accountant same way.

Re: Land Lines And Faxes///who Has Them?

I answer the cell phone as if it was my office. I'm in the office very earlier so no one ever calls me that early. I used to leave my fax line on but I'd get home to 5 or more trash faxes from worthless advertisers. Thats my 3 cents

I still have the original ph. + fax from the era before cells took over. A lot of older (wealthy) people like the old way.

My cell is now my primary number.

Re: Land Lines And Faxes///who Has Them?

At least 90% of my business starts with an email from an interested party.

The only phone number I give out it my cell.

I operate out of my house.

Fax is dead, or at least should be.

If you absolutely, positively must send a physical document, then scanning and emailing is faster, easier, and makes more sense.

I use my cell phone to send/receive email. I connect it to my laptop in my van for complete internet access.

I use Voip when at home to make calls.. it's cheaper. That's about it.

Re: Land Lines And Faxes///who Has Them?

I have a business cell that gets answered during normal business hours. private cell almost always answered. We have a home phone, but its our fax line and listed as such on business cards. We do use it for outgoing calls, but our cell phones get the most use.

I still have a land line because for if for nothing else it will still work if the power goes out. Cell phones will work until the charge goes out so it is not reliable. Since our power can go out a few times a year and for several hours sometimes it is best for us to have a constant reliable phone. The cell phone does have unlimited long distance and text and the like so when we make long distance calls we use it.

Re: Land Lines And Faxes///who Has Them?

I keep a landline for the same reasons as oldgoat, plus like teetor said, I have had the same number since before cell phones were around. When I meet with a client or potential client, I give them a business card that has my cell number on it so they can call me. When I meet with salesman or other 'non-client' types, I have different card that only has the office number on it, helps keep the unwanted sales calls down on the cell and I can screen the office calls and call back only those I need to.

I did drop my dedicated FAX line, as the newer Faxes can use the same line and tell the difference between a voice call and a FAX. I don't send or get many faxes, but still have some clients that aren't up on technology yet so I still need it for a while.

Most of my proposals, forms, correspondence, etc. I either email directly or convert to PDF's and email as an attachment. Saves time, and they get a better document, especially if there are detailed or colored drawings or pictures in them.

Re: Land Lines And Faxes///who Has Them?

I dropped my land line 3 months ago, I had a contract for my DSL, once that was over I went cable.

I'm paying less for cable Internet than I was for the DSL and land line

Internet fax's (866 toll free #), cell phone.

nothing made me happier than to tell ATT to shut it down,

Re: Land Lines And Faxes///who Has Them?

I have
-a separate office and shop from my home
-cable TV
-cable hi speed internet
-9 cell phones for myself and my people
-3 land lines
-a dedicated fax line
- a home landline that doesn't get given out
-at least 10 more cells that are owned and paid for by my subs

I insist that all calls get answered personally duiring business hours. (I hate voice mail especially those with "press 1, press 2, press 3" greetings.

We operate an office with 2 land lines and a dedicated fax, plus DSL. We have 2 cell phones. I'd get rid of Embarq if I could. I despise them and their shoddy service (many years as a Sprint --> Embarq customer soured me on them years ago).

Land line with fax/dsl, cell phone for voice. Probably drop the land line before long, and go dig. with the fax.

Re: Land Lines And Faxes///who Has Them?

I have a land line that is set up with a answering machine. That number is on all of my stationary. Once I have met with someone and feel comfortable with them I give them my cell number. I also explain to them that, if it is something that can wait untill 6pm then please use the land line. If they need an answer right away use my cell number. It seems to work so far.

Re: Land Lines And Faxes///who Has Them?

Main business line is a cell phone so the calls can be answered from anywhere. We still have a landline fax but I am changing to to an e-fax program late last year (dragging my butt). I carry two cell phones, one I give to select clients, suppliers, subs.......... The other cell is for emergency's only, only 4 people have the number. It is nice to go out to dinner and have a cell phone that will not ring unless the custom agents are raiding my shop.

Business phone number, is a business phone number. $50 a month, gets listed in the yellow pages. Why? Why not? Read original post by Joasis. Fax is a split ring additional phone line off business line, has its own phone number.

Are you a business or not? I just don't like leaving anything to question, don't see the need to, and can afford to.

I freaken love business that I call and they answer the phone "yeah", "hello,", or sometimes maybe a cough or a sneeze. Kids screaming in the background...Great stuff there. Makes me very excited to drop thousands of dollars of business on them. Sometimes I ask them who the hell I'm calling, sorry thought I was calling a business, this is a business, sorry I thought I dialed wrong and got ahold of a babysitter or something.

Land line & fax line

Cell is utilized for emergencies and chit-chat only.

We don't "crisis manage".........Couldn't imagine running a business off of a cell phone!!!!!

I have three land lines, one fax, and one cell. One of the land lines is my original number since I first started back in '83. I hate talking to people on crappy cell lines that drop out or are of poor quality.

Re: Land Lines And Faxes///who Has Them?

Fax machine quit and I get few faxes, so I set up a local account to receive for me. I have few numbers the inform of changes.

Cancelled my land line.

Kept my old business number for my cell phone and added another cell line.

My activities are mainly by phone or internet. Since much of my work is billed by hour/contact and Ineed good records, my cell gives me great info immediately for reminders and billing.
