This thread is making me re-think some of my business practices.

On my jobsite when it comes to first aid, and PPE, you supply it yourself.

I supply the larger and more universal items like tables, ladders, drop cords, drop cloths, hammer drills, a hydraulic knockout/slug buster, 8" and 10" hole saws. I also bring in a couple of gang boxes if I can find them used for the right price.

Just throw their phones in the toilet. That's the biggest cause of things not getting done I've seen

BBQ....

Proper eating utensils....

lots of paper towels....

If the job is going good, after a few weeks I'll bring the smoker and do lunch....

Unbelievable how a group lunch helps morale...

What about work boots, work trowsers, 4" sleeves, etc, here in Cali, an employer is required to pay for a required uniform, and PPE, but not safe work clothing.

Am I required to pay them when I'm pouring that drum of whoop ass all over them?

Re: Kind Of A General Question For Everyone.. What Do You Bring?

I've been at jobs where the defacto standard was that we brought some of our own PPE. While I might have been able to get it out of them, it was to my advantage to bring it. When I was working at a steel fab shop, I bought a welding hood, and leathers. I didn't NEED it, but it was handy, and I think that because I brought it I was advanced much faster than if I hadn't.

I used the POS extra hood, and wore long sleeves for a minute before it dawned on me that I needed to take initiative and "dress for the job you want" so to speak. Next thing I knew I had a floor area that was months behind the production schedule and given a laborer.

I'm still a barely passable welder, but I don't work with steel much anymore

You mean I can't require them to provide them that too??? WTF is this world coming to!!!

I've been giving that some thought - I think I'm going to tell the next one that THEY have to throw their OWN phone in there, or pound sand ... their choice!

And when I was given that area, I worked my ass off until I had so much stock built up I could have not built a single unit for a month and still been ahead of the schedule. THAT'S how you do the damn thing!

I say bring it, wear it, or go home. OSHA will never ask me for a receipt.

But they will ask your employees. Hopefully one of them will lie for you.

Re: Kind Of A General Question For Everyone.. What Do You Bring?

C-decks @ 29, Small P @30, OSHA regs have case law regarding these issues, One pair of boots a year, unless in high wear environment, etc... Reasonable care, dressing areas, Yada, Yada.

If you DON"T provide a Kybo, you have to let them/employees go to go on the clock.... 3.00/day per kybo, it is a zero brainer, the OSHA standard is a restroom is supposed available within 5 minutes.Even in Cornfields. If the job doesn't have them or enough, I just call the turd herder and order one as the GC. I've added a scaffold section just for elevated Kybos to increase up time of Masons and laborers.....

SP, if you were so awesome as an employee, how did you ever sneak out of that job? I'd never let a cash machine go without a fight, and I surely wouldn't ever promote them...

Re: Kind Of A General Question For Everyone.. What Do You Bring?

I have a first aid kit and get the small kits for employees vehicles just in case they stop somewhere for me and need one. All the regular protection stuff - I have a cooler for water and an electric kettle for winter jobs for tea/coffee/ramen/whatever. I keep two extra shirts/pairs of pants/socks in the truck in case someone needs an extra, extra change.

I do the occasional "Five Guys Friday" if we're on schedule and the guys are doing well.
