Kind Of A General Question For Everyone.. What Do You Bring?

Being a newbie to contracting, but working on jobsites for years for contractors who really didnít care about much.. I have a general question.

Besides a 1st aid kit and water, what do contractors typically bring to a job site at setup? i dont want to be like my previous employers and not care, I want to setup a table and have items there in case needed. Was just curious what yall brought (unless no one brings anything beyond water/1st aid) to the job site for the basics

Thanks!

I bring water and Gatorade.Have a large first aid kit in the tool trailer that has all of the tools required for the job except what the guys should have in their belts.
Insurance and a paycheck.

Bring the pertinent safety gear/PPE. It's your responsibly to provide it.

Make sure to bring whatever tools are needed for the job that the employees aren't required to bring. I know it's tough, but also try to have enough (within reason) for each crew so they aren't sharing tools or chasing them around all day.

Good job on taking care of the things like water and all that. Most times that doesn't show up til someone gets hurt or has heat stroke. Which is too late.

Re: Kind Of A General Question For Everyone.. What Do You Bring?

Fire extinguisher and rapid clotting bandages.

The rapid clot was developed by the israelis for gun shot wounds. You open it up and wrap it around the wound and press the clotting agent into it. I always figure if all you need is a band aid you dont NEED a band aid. But if you cut off your hand, you NEED a way to stop the bleeding. Also if there is a crazed gunmen, which seems to be happening with some regularity, you might actually be able to do something useful.

I like to go over the rapid clot with noobs before they touch a saw. Keeps their eye on the ball.

Some tools are nice to have too, and materials. That always helps a job along.

We also have the rapid clot bandages on site. We keep some in the tool trailer and on the trucks. Besides the basics like water, gatorade, first aid and fire extinguishers. I also carry extra company shirts in case someone has an accident such as paint or tar.

I hope asphalt roofing products get phased out yesterday. I LOATHE that stuff! Lost a pair of shoes, 3 shirts, and 3 pairs of pants to that stuff a couple of weeks ago.

One friend of mine brings a porta-potty to each job. He's got a few on little bitty trailers.

A couple of friends always bring lunch for everybody! One guy's wife cooks, the other guy buys it.

Re: Kind Of A General Question For Everyone.. What Do You Bring?

I bring a first aid kit that I put together myself. I hate the ones that you buy. I bought s tackle box and filed it with USEFUL things instead.

I also have an igloo cooler that I fill with ice and water. In the winter I buy the morning coffee and donuts on occasion.

I provide all tools.

Water when it's warm. We probably use 10-15gallons a day between the crew. Fill up on site from a tap.
First aid kit, one in the trailer, one in my truck, one in partners truck
Fire extinguisher in the trailer (larger one 40lb?), one in my truck, one in telehandler, one in partners truck.
Everyone has their own hardhat
Safety glasses by the case it seems

On Fridays during the summer, a BBQ for lunch is a nice treat.

Nice to see another crew does it.

I try to have one also each Friday,I supply the grill, meat, buns if needed and one or two side. The guys bring a side or desert and it is kind of a pot luck. It does a bunch to end out a week + I enjoy it immensely myself.

The "your fired" checks are different from regular blank checks?

Yes, mine include year to date info, job site hours, list of deducts above and below the "line". To lessen the chance of forgery, they are different color, and size, and I use a special ink pen to sign them.
