Incoming Storm Front

Don't you enjoy racing the incoming rain?

This was a nice and sunny/breezy day, but rain was scheduled for mid-afternoon, 3:00 pm, per Weatherbug. I was cutting it tight and had lots of tools out (working on a shed), new skylight and almost ready to roof it. I went for a quick trip at 1:30 to the Home Depot west of me...and there it was like a freight train in the sky. Uh oh. Purple-grey indigo ugly front coming my way. I hauled butt to get back and put everything away pronto. Darned thing was over an hour early. Probably should have watched the radar on another site. Which one do you guys use?

Re: Incoming Storm Front

Radar Express and I just downloaded NOAA's app a week ago.

I like it better as it tracks your location and gives you the weather for the area you are in.

Radar Express just for a quick look at any rain/storm clouds.

I had trouble with Weatherbug years ago and have stayed away from it. It messed up my computer.

Re: Incoming Storm Front

I'm a "the weather channel" app for forecasts and when it's close I use "radar now" app to watch the radar and doo my own forecasting. Those two seem to be relatively accurate for my area.

We are pretty spoiled when we can expect to predict rain within an hour or so.

I use Intellicast. It is usually good, though the extended for cast changes too much.

Re: Incoming Storm Front

I just use the Weather Station App. My guys claim that somehow my app allows me to control the weather. Thirty plus years of working outside gives you a very keen sense of whats coming.

Same here. I'll also throw accuweather into the mix as they have a 2 hour rain forecast that seems to be pretty accurate.

So weather channel for your hourly and general forecasts. Radar now for what's going on currently. And accuweather for their take on what's happening in the next 2 hours.

Re: Incoming Storm Front

Weatherbug radar is pretty reliable for me, as long as I stop what I'm doing to look at it. I can't trust any of them when it comes down to pouring and finishing concrete.

I've had flat work fouled up with an instant downpour that didn't show on radar until it was over.

Yeah I got caught in that today, got soaked pretty good too. All I could think of as my tee shirt is getting drenched was, "Yep, they said it would be quite a bit colder when the storm hits."

It must have dropped 20 degrees over here, it warmed back up some but yikes that rain was cold.

I like Dark Sky. Good forecasting and great info on how bad the next hour will be.

Re: Incoming Storm Front

Wunderground works the best for me.
I do snow plowing on the side and it's pretty accurate for when snow will start/stop and accumulation amounts.
