Re: Idiot Of The Year Awards

Kowboy---that reminds me of a stupid that I pulled---

I had a gallon jug of muriatic acid in the van--a stack of plywood fell over, crushing the jug---right on top of my router bit box---by the time I was able to pull out the plywood--all 90 bits were ruined---what a bad day that was----

Re: Idiot Of The Year Awards

About 6 months ago, I was in a hurry loading at the end of the day. MY van was pretty full, and the last thing I loaded was a coffee can full of drywall screws. As I set it on the floor prior to closing the sliding side door, the thought of it spilling occurred. Nah, I will be careful I thought. So I was careful, but the guy who cut me off was not and the can dumped over with the unmistakeable sound of hundreds of tiny coarse screws filling the sliding door track.

Probably took half an hour to clear enough out to get the door to open. I know for a fact there are still a few jammed in there.

Re: Idiot Of The Year Awards

I had a good one this week.

We were adjusting some purlins on the building we are putting up, had to cut a board out and replace it....So with my cordless circular saw in hand I promptly sat on the board that already had one end cut off and grabbed the trigger to finish removing the board (that was going to fall 18' to the ground without resistance)

As two of my guys watched in disbelief my third one shoved his hammer in my back and started yelling, "what the f:%# are you doing!?"

Saved me from a nice drop. Sometime s I get a little too comfortable on the roof!

Re: Idiot Of The Year Awards

A month or so ago I walked out to the truck with my SDS in the case stuffed with bits, realized the keys were inside so I set the drill on the corner of the bed and went back inside. Then the cell rang as I was locking up and my GF shows up. I got in the truck and drove away. Only remembered when I got home after dinner and another stop.

Good news is the new bulldog anti vibration works well.

Re: Idiot Of The Year Awards

I cant stand when people pick hand tools to use that arent theirs and dont put them back where they got them from.

Yesterday we were finishing up a cabinet install and I sat down a put knife I had been using to mix some wood putty. Well I needed it again and went back to where I left it and it wasn't there. I start griping and complaining about someone grabbing it. Several of us start looking and my brother asked what we were looking for. I say my dang putty knife that someone picked up. He said um that putty knife. I look down and its in the can of wood putty that I had been carrying around. What a retard.

No, but I've looked for my glasses frantically while they were on my face.

I am on the second floor and coming down a ladder to the ground, with everybody watching. I get to about the 3rd rung from the bottom and lose my footing, fall to the ground and land on my ass.

Silence

I get up slowly, dusting myself off and say " first topic is ladder safety"

Laughter lasted way longer than it should have and some of the guys still talk about that one to this day.
I've learned to fall gracefully if I'm going to fall on a jobsite.

Similar to you, I know how to play it off when I do something dumb or bust my ass. That's key to staying on course and not letting it derail your day!

I thought about this a little more since I posted that. Hard to believe but that was almost 30 years ago, same year my older son was born. And when I said "some of the guys" still talk about it, there are actually only 2 that I still work around. One is that Super, been a great friend and colleague all this time, the other is the best damn all around carpenter I ever knew, and still is. The three of us have stuck together with 3 different companies. We're kind of a package deal I guess.

Re: Idiot Of The Year Awards

Had to re-frame an interior door opening on a small remodel last week. To minimize drywall patching, I was going to slide the double 2x8 header halfway up into the space, then push one trimmer, then the other into place. Slid the header up, first trimmer in place. Second trimmer was a tight fit, tried to kick the bottom in. Both trimmers kicked out, header fell right across the bridge of my nose. Almost knocked me out, tore the skin off my nose, blood everywhere. Bled for 24 hours. Still hurts to sneeze.

Ha, same as my ****ty old truck. Hit a big bump once hooning down a backroad and the damn keys went flying somewhere in the cab. Took me probably half an hour to dig them out from under the seat, stalled the truck to shut it off.

O.K. That made me remember my most idiotic episode of all, not work related.

When my younger son was 2, older son 6, the whole family drives down to Atlanta for a Braves game. We get parked and we are walking to the stadium, big crowds of people and cars all around.

All of a sudden I look around and I don't see Neil, the 2 year old. "WHERE'S NEIL!" I yell at wife, ready to panic.

Next thing I know the little guy's face is upside down in front of my face. All three of them are laughing. I forgot he was riding on my shoulders.
