Are there any members out there who are performing work in the areas hit by the hurricanes, including the areas Katrina doused?. I've heard a person with a BobCat and a dump truck can make a grand a day just hauling debris in Galveston.
You could if you can get it on your own , but working for someone else is a loosing battle.
Too many cut throats out there, economy is bad all over theres people from everywhere there. prices are very low hard to make any money, not worth the risks.
Don't know, that's a good question, where to dump the debris. I heard about the area from someone who was down there recently but he's a bit of blow-hole and I take it with a grain of salt. I thought maybe FEMA was pouring money in there or maybe the insurance had kicked in and there was a lot of re-build dough.
I was just starting my GC business when the Northridge quake struck LA in ' 94. There was so much money flowing it was impossible not to do well. Lots of fraud and gouging going on too unfortunately.
I saw large crews comming in from all over the U.S. that had contracted with different cities to clean up the debris. I think most of it was off the streets where people had piled it?
My folks whio live down on the water did not have flood insurance (I wont go into details) and have been looking to FEMA to bail them out. They heard stories of a guy that got FEMA money, bought a backhoe and was cleaning up (in more ways than one)
What I saw was the initial panic where people would do anything to get their lives back. We have contracted with many of those. The ones that are calling now are the ones that want an upgraded roof, floor, cover the deductible etc.
I imaginge in the cleaning business it has gotten that way? Fly into Hobby airport and take a peek??
After Katrina, there were piles that were not hauled away 5 months after the storm because of the weather (dry) and no place to put them since they could not legally be burned safely.
Construction debris was a different problem, but after the initial panic everyone was more carefull sinse the LA and MS areas had notoriously bad controls and were afraid of proper controls being imposed to prevent arbitrary dumping. The local people were very slow to rebuild because of the cost using outside contractors (numbers they had never seen before), so a lot of material sat until there was a reason to get the pile off the indiviual site.
Need 7-10 tandem axle dump trucks with back up alarms for clay hauling job in Louisiana starting 11/5 or 11/6 call if interested Mike Williams Williams Grading Inc 828-606-9059
