How Long Have You Been In Business

A recent post about a guy shutting his doors got me wondering how long most on here have been in business.

I opened my doors with a partner in 1985, and got rid of him in 1988. Been on my own since then, save about 7 months in '92 when I tried the corporate world.

After all this time I doubt I could go back to working for someone else.

Re: How Long Have You Been In Business

Been on my own for 37 yrs. 4 yrs. before that was all sub work, 3 yrs before that an employee.

My advice to all - learn to adapt. I've lived through 3 recessions, and now this one. Those who can't or won't adapt will perish.

Best of luck to all

Re: How Long Have You Been In Business

started working for my father's company day 1 out of high school 37 yrs ago. Spent 11 yrs on the crew mostly building room addns and finishing basments and brother we did everything in house. Dear ole Dad moved me into sales when he got tired of evening calls and I really missed the crew I was on. Eventually got lucky or good or both and I was running all the leads. Lost my father in 96 and my Mother and I continued on but I made her pay me what I was worth. She got ill in 2000 and sold me the business at what we could agree on. I've owned it for 12 yrs and we do well. Thank the good Lord for our long client history it has kept us sound and above water these last few years. Rarely a day flies by that I don't appreciate the legecy they built.
