Yeah well...methinks thou dost protest too much

This thread is peppered with you telling "how you are", and also telling others how wrong they are for not being just like you.

It is impossible to believe "you don't care what anyone here thinks of you" when you go on so endlessly telling others - what you think of yourself.

And the p*sser is, on many issues, I could agree with your "principles", except you always find a way to measure others with them and mandate how others should be.

...Anyways, I won't take back a can of coffee that was obviously underpriced, nor will I go back and complain when I've been charged for 2 gallons of milk, and only got one. Quite frankly, I don't pay attention at the grocery checkout.

Now, at the lumber yard, I try to pay attention and make sure the cashier doesn't miss anything - meaning both ways.

Once I'm on the job, so long as I've got what I went out for, I don't even look at the bill again. I could have got a deal, THEY could have gotten more than they should - it doesn't matter - it'll all come out in the wash.

I'm just going to do what's right for ME, and expect that others are already doing the same

And if the time ever came that I'd get a TV for $2K instead of $5K - I'd take it back, and then check myself into rehab - because there ain't no way I'm ever spending that much on a boob tube.

We all are in business to make money--that's why we are in this business. Just because one business is bigger than you/yours isn't any reason to rip them off. That's the same logic that homeowners use when they try and rip contractors off, because as everyone knows, we're all "rich". Or a GC shorting you on your last check. Or you ripping off a GC.

I just treat everyone and every business like I would like to be treated.

Re: Home Depot Is A Joke

So earlier, I stated we had ordered appliances from HD, and they cam on the date/time specified, and all was good.

So the delivery guys have to switch the door swing, When done, I sign the bill, they are on their merry way.

A couple hours later, I go about pulling the blue tqpe, clear plastic and styrofoam out of fridge so I can get it ready. Inside the freezer compartment, is a well used, red, Black & Decker 18v drill - consumer grade thing.

I call the distributor - she says thanks - will notify drivers and they will swing back. Never happens. I call the following day - same response - same no show. Now I'm done with everything, so I take it home, and never, ever hear from them.

So now it's mine. Turns out, it is same battery/charger the little cordless weed trimmer we use, and it has come in handy.

A year later, all the batteries on my DeWalt 18v drills are ALL crap, and yet this cheap thing still works.

Go figure...

It's all about Karma, so I was expecting at least a Bosch...

Re: Home Depot Is A Joke

I don't really care what others do or don't do. Their integrity and morals is up to them to decide and live with. I will say this, which is why I originally stated that he stole $10k worth of tiles. What was the mans motives? I wasn't there, but the way it was originally stated, made it seem like the GC was going back to the same store because he knew he would reap the benefits of the mistake. In that case, I say his motives were to steal, swindle, cheat...whatever word you want to use, his motives (in my opinion) were dishonest.

Keeping your mouth shut in an isolated incident where a cashier makes a mistake in your favor is a different level of morals and integrity. Like I said, I'm not here to judge anyone. I think this is one of those things where there isn't right and wrong. Just a what are you comfortable living with.

But back to the main subject of this thread...

I hear a lot of people talking about how they have told HD employees how stupid they are and berated them for what they interpret as incompetence. I get just as frustrated at these stores as everyone else. But damn how about some consideration, kindness and tolerance? This person probably here's crap and grumbling all day about how stupid they are. How good do you think they would feel if someone smiled at them and was patient and talked to them like a human being? I know time is money and everything has to get done yesterday, but first of all we should realize what to expect when we walk into these stores. Second, we should try and be maybe the one bright spot in that persons day. Being rude and talking down to someone isn't gonna make them smarter and get you out the door any quicker, but a smile and a thank you for your help, could make someone's day. Besides, I was always told you get more bees with honey then you do with vinegar.

Just my 2 cents. Not looking down on anyone from a pedestal because believe me I am no saint, just things that I strive to do though out my day.

Telling people what I think it's not the same as caring. Again my track record is proof enough. Do I enjoy a good debate or argument, he'll yeah. But again I don't care what you or anyone else thinks about me. If I did I would not be as persistent or aggressive.

But let's put it into perspective. Greg claimed that we, meaning not just me, we're saying we would do that in order to make ourselves look like saints. My track record again proves that I don't care if you think I an a staint or not. I don't care if people think I have to have the last word. I don't care if you think I tame things to far or beat a dead horse.

That is what I mean by I don't care what you think. You are going to think what you think. I will continue to speak my mind and take anything anyone can dish at me. It challenges my skills and thought process.

And I still find it funny that the vast majority of my posts are benign. It's just there are those threads that I can't stay away from. Especially with posts like this to respond to.

Don't y'all have WORK to do, instead of derailing a thread for 8 pages (and counting)?

There is a book that I read that puts it pretty clearly.

If you know the right thing to do, and you don't do it, that is wrong.
Not word for word there, but I think you get the idea.

Re: Home Depot Is A Joke

I went to Best Buy a few years ago to get some A/V equipment for a customer and me being me at 8 at night after working all day wasn't paying much attention. I swiped my card and as I was walking out it clicked that I had been charged $350 for $800 worth of stuff. Checked the receipt and realized I hadn't been charge for the receiver but had been charged for something much cheaper. I went back and of course had to spend 20 minutes in the returns line but in speaking with the lady in the returns line the cashier would have been in trouble (whether that meant pay for it or be fired I don't know).

How would they have traced it to the cashier? What if it wasn't the cashiers mistake but rather the mistake of the guy programing the scanner who put in the wron UPC? As far as the store knows, they sold one of the cheaper items.

Due to the just in time delivery system all big box stores use, everything thats in inventory is logged in a computer. Every sale deducts from inventory and goods recieved are added all in that database. Why is it then that every week or month stores do inventory of what they have? Its because the system is seriously flawed and although it works, it barely does so. The inventory isn't to order things they ar low on, it is to update the errors in the database.

Same way most places control inventory loss--cameras and tracking.
Many reasons why someone can note that their inventory is off by one, especially if it's a big/expensive thing. Inventory doesn't match stocked items. Now managers start to try and figure out where/why.
They know who was on what register during a period of time.
They know what was checked out that day and through each register.
And they have cameras.

Or even someone noticing that they sold a widget X that day and check inventory and see it wasn't removed from inventory.

Common for employees to give "friends" discounts by ringing up wrong items or not ringing up all of them.

Stores have so much stuff stolen from them, loss prevention is a multi million dollar business they have to invest in or die off. The only entity that doesn't worry about losing money is government. Everything else has to maintain a positive cash cycle.

I don't recall exactly, it was a few years ago. I don't remember if she scanned something wrong or if the wrong thing came up. I do remember being happy I noticed the mistake when it happened, then being pissed I had to wait 20 minutes in the returns line, then happy again when I was told the cashier would have be in trouble for it. I do what I need to do to go to sleep at night being comfortable with the choices that I have made throughout the day.

Normally the cashier isn't penalized for mistakes like that being that it was a failure in the system and not the employee's performance. It takes a good cashier to be able to catch something like that but it isn't really in his job description.

For customer items, I would have gone back to have the issue fixed simply because if I ever had a problem with that item and had to return it, I would have the correct item on the receipt.

But generally speaking I would have let it go being that it would be more trouble than it was worth trying to explain why I have item 'A' but my receipt says, item 'B'. It would take those idiots the better part of a half-hour to figure out exactly what you want being confused by the fact that you already have it.

Not true. They are supposed to make sure the item they ring up is the item in the basket. If their is an error in pricing it may depend on how severe the error but they could still be held responsible.

And the last part of your answer is just justification to do the wrong thing.

I think you and many others have missed the point of this thread. If you don't have anything bad to say about Home Depot then you shouldn't say anything at all. If you wanted to add to the conversation you should have just asked some one at the store for help and then reported back to us on how much of your time was wasted.

So it's only a one sides bandwagon thread? Opposing views not allowed?
