GoPro Stair Brackets???

I was just browsing this site when I noticed the GoPro stair advertisement to the side of the screen. http://www.goproconstruction.com/

I was curious if anyone had tried this crap? I fail to see the point.....

I would think, if you were really a "pro", you wouldn't need those expensive things.

Seems like I have been seeing these kinds of things for years around the big box store, specifically aimed at DIY's for deck stairs. You're right, if you know how to calculate rise and run, know where to add and subtract for finish treads and can nothc a stringer or rout grooves and dadoes in a stair carriage, what he hell would you bother with these things for.
Training wheels.

Ok lets say 2 yrs down the road you need to move something down the stairs - your buddy slips and drops it on the tread and it cracks (you did sheetrock under the stairs) how do you replace the tread?
It is now screwed from underneath.....Hmm

kevjob & jonm Got it right Pros dont use crap like that. = my.02

Re: GoPro Stair Brackets???

The thing is, you still have to find your riser height by doing the math. All the brackets do is keep you from cutting the stringer, you still have to know where to line up the marks on the brackets, you still have to cut the top and bottom of the stringer.

I see products like this from time to time and just wonder whether the person that invented the item really thinks it's a good idea or if they just want to money for their BS product?

My stairs are recessed into a skirt board, glued and screwed from underneath anyways. How would YOU replace these stairs?

No different from the example you gave.

I've seen those and always scratched my head in wonderment (is that even a word?). So I guess you get a half riser at grade for a deck if you aren't lucky on the math.

Nah, you just put where you feel it's right. Then serve your guests double shots. They'll look fine.

Good Luck

I remember seeing Tom SIlva and Norm Abrams do that very repair years ago on TOH. But I can't recall how they did it. Probably using some fancy $25,000 piece of equipment that was donated to Norm for promotional purposes.

If the nosing of the tread is broken or cracked, then you can use a dowel plug of the same species to reattach it. It works really well once the glue is dry.
