Esprit De Corps

When I was in law enforcement, there was a certain amount of esprit de corps, not only in my organization, but throught the country and the world. When traveling or meeting people in the states, as well as abroad, being in law enforcement made me feel like I was a member of this huge group or organization.

It didn't matter if you were young or old, novice or expert. It seemed as if everyone was there to help and make the entire group better as a whole.

In your opinion, is it this same in this industry?

In my opinion, this forum mirrors my personal experiences, most people are extremely helpful. Inevitably, there are a few a-holes that apparently have no other recourse but to be rude, sarcastic and arrogant. But, I'm sure their own insecurities about one thing or another leave them no choice.

Re: Esprit De Corps

I think so. Especially when I comes to other guys I feel are real professionals. Guys who are in the trades and do what they do well are not threatened by others in the same field and usually will not act like a douche. There is a certain amount of ego, but I've found most other contractors to be friendly and courteous. I always try to act the same way.

I thought the thread about the Lowes contractors day provided a shining example of the Esprit de corps

Re: Esprit De Corps

Most of the legitimate contractors in my area work pretty well together considering we're competition. There are a few that I will loan tools to, or give advice at the drop of a hat. (as long as I wasn't invited to bid that particular project)

I have been asked to look at jobs 50 miles away and usually refer them to someone closer.

In this forum yes, in the real world as much as hate to say it the general population that make up our profession are often fly by night scammers, the guys who are not tend to be self centered with little or no interest in camaraderie. GMOD
