Re: Chat

Put 25 or 30 contractors in the same room, and don't expect a ladies aid society atmospere.

Somebody, somewhere, is making money from this forum. What allows them the ability to do that is the traffic on here.

That traffic, apart from whatever posers may filter in, is from contractors who make their money in an indelicate manner and tend to act accordingly now and again, on or off the job site.

And whatever problems anyone had with chat in the last few nights, look back through P & R and tell me you think that's been any better. That section has a tendency to bring out the worst in people, and they aren't kidding.

Re: Chat

OK, let's take a step back.
Nothing has changed on this site. The SAME rules that have always run this run this site today. Read them and let me know if you have any problems with them.
Most of you who have been a member of this site for any time know that I'm not extreme with the rules. I let curse words slip every now and then... it's when they get out of control that there is a problem.

So, why am I so mad? Why did I close down the chat room? In short, several members were using that chat room to damage this site. What did they do? They used the chat room to exchange login details for a fake account and then used that account to post gay **** IMAGES on the site. I'm not sure if that's what gets these users off or not but their accounts are about to be banned.

If anyone has a problem with me getting pissed about Gay **** (and YES, I mean images) being posted on this site and therefore pulling the plug on the chat room and some accounts let me know. I have no problem defending myself.

Well that is a good reason to ban someone and I thought I'd never say that. Care to tell us who they were so we can heckle them and their homo lifestyle ways?

Re: Chat

And to what point? I expect I am speaking for all the moderators by saying this, but a few asses are not going to wreck the finest contractors site, and we will diligently work to see that it does not happen.

This site contains some of the finest information available for us in the trades, and a few clowns will not be allowed to run their own agendas here and wreck this forum!

Re: Chat

Gay **** sucks!! That was kind of stupid on someones part. The few times I went in there it was like some guys kicked back at the bar after work, shooting the sh!t and knocking a few down. There is always someone who can't handle their alcohol very well though and usually gets tossed out of the bar.

Moral of the story: Be a presentalbe drunk!

Re: Chat

So, let us know when you ban them so we can cycle thru the members and look for the 'banned' thingie next to their names so we can track them down on other forums and torment them...

I jest.

Ok, here goes.

The difference between what I saw in chat and the P&R section, is that when people in the P&R have a difference of opinion, they speak it openly on the boards, personal attacks and all. Everyone is very open about their feelings toward each other. What they do NOT do, is hide in a little room, make boyish plans involving fake accounts and then post gay images for everyone to see, including my children. Manly men indeed.

When a member has a problem with another member, as was the case with all this chat crap (I will not name the member, nor did I "snitch", or report the posts or chat I saw, not my style), man up and send the dude a PM and maybe you can figure out what the problem is.

I'm not against fun, I really enjoy the less than technical threads, and some of you guys are funnier than hell. I really like you all, but when I have my 3 yo daughter on my knee and come across images like that, I could climb right through my monitor and beat the living sh!t right outta ya right now. No question.

So why don't you manly men send poor (you know what his name is) a PM or even call it out on the boards, but give the guy a chance to defend himself.

Shane.

Re: Chat

Maybe the bigger picture here is the quality of this site.

This being a professional Contractors site it wouldn't work if we all couldn't converse with a few cuss words and a lot of humor.

This morning when I saw this thread it made me wonder, would I be willing to join this fraternal order of boobs if the first thing I came across was a chat room full of 12 year olds.

I’m all for the fun but maybe this is a wake up call letting us know we need to crank it back a bit.

How can any of us expect this site to be taken seriously by other pro’s in our industry if we can't find the line.

It sounds last night was a couple of guys skirting the system to break the rules. “OFF WITH THEIR HEADS I SAY”

The gay **** was a BS move, what does that have to do with the Chat section?

I would like to know who the PWC guy was that posted it, the mods can tell who it was by the IP, and the IP should be banned.

If my kids saw it (Luckily they didn't) I would be looking to kick someone's ***.

The problem I have seen with banned by IP is that it is not foolproof.
IP numbers change [even for broadband].

I do agree the poster of that image should receive a lifetime ban under any and all "aliases".

Re: Chat

I came in after that had happened...I do agree though that was crossing the line.

As I said in my other post, I enjoy and expect a little off topic discussion, some fun poking etc...but the **** post, gay or straight was crossing the line and I agree the person that did it should be banned. I don't believe the whole flock should be punished for one of the geese's actions however. When I FIRST entered the chat room, I expected it to be a buncha guys discussing contracting, which I can say we did (a little). But seeing what I have seen the past 2-3 weeks in the threads, being carried over to the chats, I assumed it was "the way things were going to be" now, and accepted it.

Did it bother me? No. Would I have preferred to discuss construction? Yes. Did I Join in? Once or twice, but mostly just laughed.

I understand why it happened, and I would understand if it never came back. However I think if it serves the purpose Nathan set it up for, it would be a great resource, both to shoot the sh*t, and discuss different topics related to our trades in a quick, efficient manner. Also, I feel it brings certain members closer togeather, maybe exchanging numbers, and become friends, as I know many on this site have as a direct result of what Nathan has provided.

I think if this site is used the way it should, to it's full potential, the invaluable resource it has and will become could be a landmark of education & comradery for decades to come.

Re: Chat

I have to agree with MM.
I came in the middle of the chat ( I guess ) during the posting of the **** material on the forum. It was my first time into any chat room, but I figured it would be a bunch of guys blowing off steam and chatting off topic- just having fun. I did join in a few times, but mainly followed the chat ( as I can't type fast enough ). Did the chatroom conversations bother or deter me from entering again?-NO, but I do agree that the posting of **** in the forum has no right to be on the site as this can be viewed by anyone, case-in-point Shane's little girl!!!!
I am fairly new to the site and I think it is a VERY constructive forum for all tradesmen to discuss our work in different topics.
I'm all about having a good time, but when it involves adult material / conversation possibly being viewed by children that's when the Mod's have to step in and handle the situation- which, I believe, has been done in a professional manner.
This response isn't directed towards anyone specific- just stating my opinion- hope to not offend anyone.
Thanks,
Roger

Has nothing to do with chat. Personally I like chatting, been doing it on various sites for years. It is a great way to interact and get to know people a little better than by just reading their posts on the board. I was really happy the last few days when I saw the chatroom being used by quite a few members. I wondered since I joined why the chatroom didn't get used very much if at all.

I wasn't in the least bit offended by anything I saw in chat, just boys being boys, even tame compared to some job sites I've worked on. But to use it like a bunch of 13 year old boys hiding under the slide at recess hatching plans to embarrass the (fat, tall, pimply, ugly, whatever) kid is plain ridiculous.

This place is chock full of the smartest and most professional people I've ever run into (I thought I was the smartest person in the world till I came here), so let's all act that way please.

Shane.
