Building Envelope Restoration

Hey all, hopefully this is an appropriate place for this question.

I am a 4th year apprentice carpenter in Vancouver, I am working for a solid building envelope restoration company and I have a chance for advancement rapidly approaching. My question is this; how lucrative is the building envelope restoration industry for company owners? I enjoy the work and my coworkers, but ultimately donít want to commit to something that wonít help me build the life I want. I find it hard to gauge how profitable the work is compared to a trade like roofing for example, where production is more obvious and faster. We replace windows, waterproof, rebuild decks, do structural repairs, rain screen etc

Thanks in advance,

Tbone

Re: Building Envelope Restoration

There is an ever increasing emphasis on making structures more energy efficient, depending on where one is it can be by choice or by demand by the government. With so many structures having been built without this in mind for years and years I would venture to say that it is going to continue to be a growth industry.

Here's a couple of links to the energy code requirements in California. They got and are getting a little carried away but you can glean a lot of goof information there and also at Energy Code Ace
