Best 12 Sliding Compound Miter Saw

Im thinking of a new saw. Not quite ready to swallow the kapex cost. I have an old 10 Bosch that I use for job site work. But Id like to get a 12 for trim and finish. Im looking at Makita, Dewalt, and Bosch. Thoughts?

I have a Bosch 5412. Don't think it's made anymore.

I've had it for about 10 years. Probably have it for another 20 or 30.

I like Bosch for more precision type tools. Router, Table saw, Miter Saw, Sanders, etc.

Thats funny. Ive seen the quality in Bosch go down hill in the past 5 years. I know the 10 axial glide has a problem but I hear the 12 doesnt have it.

I don't mind my axel 12" Bosch. A buddy had his "axel" glide Jet miter saw on site, didn't care for it.

I've heard that a couple times too.

Don't really know, I haven't bought a new Bosch in a while.

Re: Best 12 Sliding Compound Miter Saw

Milwaukee any good?
Ive been reading this evening and I really think I might just cough up for the kapex. All the other ones have reviews that say there is some issue with the saw etc. I know none are perfect, but damn $1500 is tough to choke down.

Re: Best 12 Sliding Compound Miter Saw

I have the 12" Axial Glide. Great saw after I got it tuned in. Has limitations on how tall it will cut on the right side of the fence. I think 4 3/4" is max. Left side has over 6" I think. Very smooth, all the time, doesn't fade with time. Some deflection, but all sliders have that issue. Lots of torque on start up, could use a slow start feature. It's one of the few things that tasks my inverter. It'll always start the saw, but it's startup current is right on the edge of too much.

I have everything Makita. But what drove me was there was a Makita factory service center 10 miles from my old house.

I would look into what manufacturer has service nearby to help tip the scales.

SkilSaw just came out with a 12" worm drive miter saw.

You should get it and let us know how you like it.

When you boys get your new saws, you'll need one of these to help get it started.

Re: Best 12 Sliding Compound Miter Saw

well that is interesting .i wonder if the soft starter could quiet down the 12" milwaukee .
Anyhow as for this thred .Have you considered cordless ? When I replaced my last 12" I got the dewalt cordless . I can hook up to a cord if need be . I believe it is one the lighter weight 12" saws . I bought mine for the shop but it ended up in the truck .The cordless feature keeps turning up to be valuable on the jobs . the light on the blade is excellent .

There was a review on line for the Skill ,based on it I would not purchase one .

I don't think she'll be interested in your soft starter

Went to the website and all of their products are sold out.

Umm, think I might start a little too hard for her liking....

IDK OP, we've been beating on a 713 Dewalt for years and I just scored a 780 still in the box for 300 bucks cuz the store where the dude bought it closed and he couldn't return it. I know dewalts. I've repaired our tile saw, I've repaired the 713, I rehabbed the gearing on the dewalt table saw the other day and I hadn't touched it in like two years. Every single freaking part of these saws is available online, right down to the last nut and bolt, with exploded schematics. I'm scared enough with the 10 inch, the 780, the table and the full set of Stablias in the truck if i have to stop at a Home Depot as it is. I think anything higher dollar should just stay at home in a woodshop.

Re: Best 12 Sliding Compound Miter Saw

I still run a DeWalt 720. Rebuilt it before they discontinued the parts.

My next saw I will have to consider if I would miss the slide action if I ditch it.

Anyone switch away from it and feel it was a mistake.

I still have both slide and nonslide . The nonslide is at the jobsight ,no issues .I do like the slider in the shop when building cabinets ,comes in useful .Though in the field doing trim or remodel it really isn't worth the extra weight and size .I have plenty of other methods to cut wide boards .Generally beams and such are better cut in place ,in the stack anyhow .
