Anyone Have Pics Of A Low Projection Bow Roof?

I have a bay window to install that has a very low projection, 5". I am looking for ideas of a roof that will not look retarded. Any help would be great. The owner is a very visual person and keeps showing me pics of bays with 24" projections and say make it look like that. What SHE cant understand is even a 12 pitch will only rise a few inches and I think a 18-20 pitch will look odd.

I know what you mean, they do look weird. I remember doing a few 6 sided bow window units that had maybe a 10" projection. The best description I can give of the finish roofs on those was an upside down canoe. If you could post a pic or a sketch I could throw my 2 cents at ya. Lots of variables depending on where it is located.

Try a Google search of "Bow Window roof pics".

There was a fair amount of info ibcluding some factory made roofs.
Maybe you'll get an idea.

Re: Anyone Have Pics Of A Low Projection Bow Roof?

Warren, its on a gable end. I like to extend them to the soffits but that will not work here. The canoe is exactly what it looks like in my head. My fear is the owner, without seeing an example, is not going to like it either. I spent about 20 minutes with her explaining, or attempting to explain how it will look in a language she could understand. Without pics I am speaking a different language.

Griz, that is the exact search I did first. Most of them are larger projections.

I've seen many of those, but never actually did anything more than continue the main roof down with a straight fascia on a single story home.

On a 2 story home with the bow on the first floor, I would do a simple pent roof detail with hip ends on it.

Can you do a roof return that runs across the gable horizontally and then build up the top of the bow unit into it?
