10 Years, 7 Months, 19 Days - The Streak Is Over

Reset the counter to 0.

I put a screw into a wire.

Sonuvabitch.

On a wallpapered wall to boot, to make my first time extra memorable.

Long enough....

I could definitely blame the hack electrician who preceded me, but what's the use? It's my screw.

I hit the stud, but kinda banked off it. Before I could react I heard the outlet pop. Screw came back out melted. Womp womp. Sad face. The wire was probably floating too close to the drywall, but whatever. Not going to call Columbo. Electrician should be there tomorrow.

There are two 150 pair lines right next to each other.
According to the property owner, one is in use, the other is.. er...was usable, but not being used.

My lead guy actually hit both of them, but the lower one just got scuffed up.

Totally my fault, I knew they were down there and forgot to warn him to look out for the flags hidden in the weeds.

I'm guessing the broken one isn't in use, as I've tried to get someone from the phone company out there for the last 3 days, and nobody has called me back.

Like you said fingers crossed lol.

I know someone who hit a buried fiber optic cable going between a Verizon satellite building and a Verizon distribution center 3 miles apart. Cost him $80k because he never called to have it marked out. Lucky for him it was 1 of 3 cables between the buildings. just 3 ft deep

Somewhere, right now, is a guy in an 18 wheeler wedged beneath an overpass that he didn't notice was too low for him to pass under.

It's important to remember that neither of us are that guy, and that we should count our blessings, as I've always imagined that being possibly the worst job related situation you can be in.

I think I'm around 15 years or so, but it was a deuzie. Doing a custom closet install. Kind of a drill and pray situation, because the breaker box was in the other side if the wall.

Hit the Jack pot, took a leg out at the transformer. Hot crap blasts into my face, lights go out, off the step ladder I go.

No witnesses, so it never happened.

I dug up two (yes...two) laterals of a septic field a couple months ago while digging the trench for our electrical service.

(In my defense....the field was drawn at least 220í further up the hill in the blueprints.)

Sometimes ...you work based on basic assumptions.

(Havenít hit a wire in 30 years though. )

Hope you had your locates done.

I hit a gas line 2 years ago. It was on the very edge of the markout. The gas company car out and had it fixed in 15mins. Told me i was lucky I had locates or I would have been getting the bill.

I hit right in the center of a supply line for an upstairs bathroom with some shiplap siding in 2009.

Got it all figured out and repaired/replaced.

One of my guys hit the damn thing again after it was repaired... **** happens. Dont sweat it.

Re: 10 Years, 7 Months, 19 Days - The Streak Is Over

As I was digging out a window well for an egress window in a basement, I was 6 feet deep rocking back and forth standing on the shovel with both feet because it was solid hard clay.

Hit the power supply to the house. It threw me up out the hole and blew a silver dollar size hole in the shovel.

I could really see for a good 3-4 minutes because of the sparks.

I had a customer tell me she was certain that meter base was bypassed.

Used my snips to cut it. It wasn't bypassed. Scared the crap out of the customer and my buddy.

I was too shocked to react.

I did, problem is, it was within the tolerance zone we were supposed to stay out of, so I'm not sure how that goes...guess I'll find out if they ever call me back.

Almost same exact thing happened to me, except it was my boss told me to tear all the wires off the side of that house.

Don't worry, everything out there is dead.

I was young and dumb enough to believe him, got a face full of molten metal when I cut into the service wire with my side cutters.

Lesson learned LOL

I put a drywall screw into a frost proof hose bibb once. Worst part was we didnít figure it out till it was used and the drywall was finished.
