WordPress SEO Rankings.

Does WordPress normally do pretty well in Organic search engines?

Since I switched the format of my site of to in January I actually seem to have a lot better rankings in a lot of different keywords. There are 70 keywords I am ranked between number 1-3 for and others have been rapidly moving up.

Is it wrong to contribute this to WordPress?

Wordpress tends to do very well with SEO. There are several factors to consider. There are the trackbacks that are attached to your blog posts. There are also many SEO plug-ins that help.

It's not wrong to attribute this to Wordpress, never argue with results

I think it's an SEO beast, but like any other type of site it ultimately requires good content to get and convert visitors.

A couple things I noticed on your site: It looks like you need area+service specific pages and a blog. The blog and constant content updates are one of the most seo friendly features IMO.

Also, please please please get rid of the keyword spam in your google places title. It can ONLY be the title of your business as it appears on your business card. You will get busted for that eventually.

Re: WordPress SEO Rankings.

There are a bunch of Wordpress themes that are set up to promote good seo practices. A good WP theme probably does not have any SEO advantages over a well done hand coded site but it's pretty hard to find one of those.

If the new theme has a better SEO setup than your old site then you'll see an improvement, the reverse could happen too.

I like the Yoast SEO plugin for WP. I find it promotes better practices.

Catalysts theme is a great SEO theme.

If you choose a theme with good SEO qualities there no need for an SEO Plugin,

If you need a good SEO plugin I used to use Platinum SEO...now any theme we use has all the built in SEO features.

Re: WordPress SEO Rankings.

I don't know about themes, but this Push Button SEO plugin looks good -- and you can't beat the price.

I just downloaded it but haven't installed or used it yet. Good tips in the video.

I'm currently using All-in-One SEO and Easy WP SEO. The new Push Button SEO plugin is designed to work well with All-in-One SEO, so I'll probably switch to using that combination and drop Easy WP SEO.

Obviously if the only thing different is a switch to WP, then it's not wrong. Like others said, WP does pretty well unless you do something wrong. Enjoy the boost and take full advantage of it.

What I'm about to say is not to be negative, but to help you plan for the future so you don't get lulled by the current situation. Since you are ranking so well, it's most likely because others haven't put in the same effort. Once they do, you can find yourself slipping if you don't stay vigilant.

Search engines work on a grandfather type principle literally to a fault. IOW, once you occupy the top spot, it becomes more difficult for the next player to bump you. You now have the advantage, but must work to keep it. Keep doing what the competition is not doing or not doing enough, and your lead is more secure.

With that said, a temporary bounce is normal, so don't get too concerned about the leapfrogging that routinely takes place. You may have a competitor suddenly arrive from nowhere and a few weeks or so later they disappear back into oblivion. There's always someone with a "new bag of tricks" and these tricks work for a while before they get slapped. It's the ones who share good ranking with you over the long haul that you need to find ways to make a better presentation since search engine users are likely to visit your site and their's.

Re: WordPress SEO Rankings.

If you use Wordpress properly it can help you out a lot. A few tips that we've found on how to use Wordpress is 1) blogging multiple times per week 2) adding specific title, description, and keyword tags for each page and post.
