Website Review If You Have The Time

Hi all. I have a few websites and I have been messing around with changing them up.

If you don't mind, would you check out this site I'm building and see what you like and don't like about it.

Its not complete, but the links that are there should work and I'll be updating it as much as possible.

Thanks!

Re: Website Review If You Have The Time

Personally, - - I would say start over, at least from a design point of view.

The colors are mismatched and too stark of a contrast, especially the whites and very-pale blues against the bold sky background, - - and the layout lacks a sense of overall definition.

Also, - - the company name and phone number should stand out more, - - much more.

And NEWS?? Cool, - - I'll be back in half-an-hour. Maybe.

Why direct people elsewhere??

Anyway, - - just one man's quick and rash opionion . . .

It could surely use some work but to say start over is little much. I've seen way worse website reviews posted here.

Re: Website Review If You Have The Time

I would start by;
-Removing the background image. You already have an image slideshow, it's too much going on. If you want a bit more color then pick something fairly neutral that works with your content and logo. A bit of texture is a good thing for solid color areas. Chris Wright's website comes to mind as a good example of color block use.

-Tom's correct about removing the links in to news and weather. They just send people away from your site and don't provide any added value to you.

-You need to add your location to the site somewhere so the search engines will identify you as a local company! You can just put the info in the footer but a more effective technique is to add the info to your contact page including a map and a little bit of info about the location.

-You should have a real call to action at the top of the site. Where your phone number is your should have something like "Call Now For a Free Estimate!" with a click to call phone number. Or you could make the call to action a button that directs to your Free Estimate page.

.
Andrew, you have links to news, weather and
manufacturers product websites...On both of
those websites.

Really like the name 'Gulf-Breeze'...but, never give
someone the opportunity, or reason to link out of
your site....unless you're a site relying on getting
click through money.

Can I send you a banner link for you to put on your
site for me?

Re: Website Review If You Have The Time

Thanks for the input. I'll be changing a few things, like getting rid of the news and weather links or changing them.

Don't think I'll tear the whole thing down though.

I'll lighten the background picture as to not bring as much attention to it.

I've thought about a call to action, but I haven't been able to figure a "best" design yet. I'll work on it.

Thanks.

I think it's not a bad start. I would suggest adding a blog to get more dynamic content posted as well as links to your social media.

Re: Website Review If You Have The Time

Perhaps the info is there, but to the layman, all I see is advertisements about product. Nothing stood out about who is doing the work. Granted, there are some customers who need to know every detail about the product they are buying.

But, for many, we want to hire somebody we trust, and has the product knowledge to give us the right fit for our home. Focus on the people, not the product.

Re: Website Review If You Have The Time

Thanks all.

I think its interesting how different people view a website. One mans misery is another mans pleasure I guess.

I'll be working on it over the next few months adding and tweaking and hopefully getting as much as I can out of it.

That's not strictly true. You need good CONTENT on your page. There are many, high ranking, pages that don't have 300 words. It's not a bad guideline to encourage people to write comprehensive content but a video or photo gallery with a short description can rank as well as a 300+ word page. My most visited page from organic search results is a picture of a cedar shower with a one sentence description.

I would put the phone number up top, and add a blog for more content.

I didn't say the 300 words don't need to be good. However using keywords and writing 300 words is a good start.

Actually yes and no, the amount of words is really
somewhat irrelevant these days. It's really about
keywords and the placement on the site, too many
keywords in one place is not good.

That's why blogs and articles do not get as much
results these days. Keywords in footers, the site
name itself, different locations on the site, etc. is
what the bots are classifying as 'quality sites' now.

Re: Website Review If You Have The Time

The question is how do you rank in google? The best looking site on the web has no value if it is on page 2 of the google search.

My website (national/international) ranks 1-7 page 1 depending
on the keywords/strings, organically (not counting
www.the website.com).
