Re: New Website, Need Feedback

I think it is very nice. Did you build this yourself? Were you a newbie or had you done it before?

Thanks

Re: New Website, Need Feedback

I did not build it myself. The company owner had it designed. The only drawback is that we can't add and update photos on our own, we have to pay the web designer to do it and it is very expensive. Do you think it needs more photos of his work? Or should we just have a separate "look book" for customers to look through on request?

Re: New Website, Need Feedback

Its a site stuck in 2005 or 2006. No social signals, no blog, no cms, no G places, no physical address through out the site. Content is thin, the site is thin.

The website is sending no signals to the search engines that is gives a crap what they want, so in turn the search engine will not share it with the community. Backlinking it will be a futile effort.

ask for a wordpress conversion, hire someone else to fill it with on page seo goodies, and content.

I do think it comes across as presentable though.

Please define expensive. Although having the ability to add your own photos can be a good thing, I routinely find it to not be a good thing. I have no way of knowing if your designer made this decision to extract more money from you, or to retain quality (the site has plenty of room for improvement but your image quality is good).

I know many members here feel the ability to do self editing should be automatic, but I would point out that it's not automatically beneficial. On the subject of images, indoor shots are especially difficult. If you are using a professional photographer, then a WordPress site you can add your own images to makes good sense. OTOH, the images I get from contractors usually require enhancement.

As a remodeler, your work should sell itself. Unfortunately, the camera does not always do it justice. Paying a professional to make sure your images properly represent your work quality is not a waste of money.

Great looking site, looks like it was built for the benefit of the web designers customer, your boss.

I made a quick video review of your website. Overall looks good but need to make a few changes for the biggest impact.

Re: New Website, Need Feedback

Actually that is a nice website. The only thing I would suggest from my own experience, is that you should have a form on at least the home page. We have done quite a bit of A/B testing on various site designs, and have always found that sites designed with a form on the landing page tend to provide better lead generation. Remember your site need not only look good. A recent study I read, said that the avg user will only spend 10-30 seconds on your site before leaving. I think a form on the home page would help you with your lead gen efforts.

That may be a little generous. Although I don't know the origin of this number, it's said to be about 8 seconds. My observations say this is probably pretty close. Either way, we know it's short and grabbing attention immediately is crucial.

Re: New Website, Need Feedback

well Nancy- Its nice- but doesnt appeal to me- which is fine. it sorta looks like a flyer I would get in the mail for a furniture store. I think your gallery is limited. almost like you just walked through your own house and took some pictures. I decided to remove my work pictures from my site because I think it bores the potential customer to look at them all. everyone has websites nowadays- some people sell their business- some sell themselves. what do you want to sell? dont be hard on yourself either, I've changed my website so many times during the last couple of years- its a learning process. I personally would have not hired this out- there are so many easy to learn websites today, and you can change anything at any time. Take care.

Wow, I'm almost too speechless to post. I completely understand why you would think that, but having actively designed web sites for about 13 years or so now, I still don't find it easy. Even if I did, it will be different next week anyway.

Platforms like WordPress make web design so easy, they can make you wonder how us web designers stay in business. In that sense your statement is true. But therein is also the deception. With even a minimal amount of research you will discover two things: first, online sales are growing every year, and second, most web site owners wonder why their web site isn't bringing in more business. The perceived ease of building a web site is at least part of the reason for that.
