Keep My Website But Get Seo?

So I posted my website for review awhile back....received a lot of advice about how every thing about the site ought to be changed.

Right now I'm reading through the google seo guide http://static.googleusercontent.com/...rter-guide.pdf

What I'm thinking right now is that I pay someone to do the SEO, but keep doing my own website design, making changes and improvements as I go.

Or am I just being absurd?

the website in question is http://devineescapes.com/

Thanks

Hey, that looks like a Wordpress website. I just had a brand new site produced, it is in Wordpress too. Do you find it easy to manage?

Take a look... see my signature

Seo is a pita IMO lol! Seriously though I'm going to pay someone to do mine as I have paid for a years service, and been working at it for a month and a half now and am nowhere. Lol. But then I'm now as computer savvy as some.

The thing with SEO is it's an open playing field. And guess who keeps moving the goal posts - GOOGLE.

You have to be on top of it all the time so yes, you should be paying someone to do it for you. Otherwise your time will just evaporate.

Re: Keep My Website But Get Seo?

You can do a manage your own WP site and do a good job with the on-site seo. The off-site seo is a lot harder to pull off.

If you choose to do it yourself then the guide you posted is a decent starter guide to basic site architecture. Site architecture is important and starting out with the right configuration can save headaches later on. To actually rank for target keywords you will need to do some research and figure out which keywords you want and then write content to target them. It shouldn't just be for Google though, if a keyword is relevant for your business then you probably have a lot to say about it and past experiences to share. Paying a pro to help you target keyword opportunities is one way to DIY but get a little help. You can use a SEO plugin for WP that will help keep your content focused but don't become a slave to it's advice, remember that audience is #1, Google is #2. Yoast's SEO plugin is my preference.

For off-site SEO you will need to build a bunch of inbound links(links from other sites pointing at your site). There are some good posts on here about setting up local directory listings which is the low hanging fruit, you can also go to GetListed.org to learn most of what you need to know about this. Getting your content out there via social media, publications, sites like patch.com, etc., will be another good step for you. This is the harder stuff to pull off and what a lot of SEO "experts" offer.

Just remember that all SEO "experts" aren't proficient in every area. I doubt if 1 in 100 is. It's like finding a contractor that can do drywall, trimwork, paint, foundations and landscaping as well as their subs. You need to find one that is proficient in the area you most need help.

What is patch.com? I pulled it up on mobile and I'm only getting info for the Philadelphia pa area.

Re: Keep My Website But Get Seo?

What I typically recommend for businesses like yours is to have a professional take care of all your on-page SEO. Get someone who will take the time to do the research for your keywords and area, and turn your website into something fundamentally sound.

It's a WP site, so it's not going to be a big headache. They'll probably give you some blogging tips too.

For around $1k you can have a professional go through the site, give you a plan, and then claim and optimize all your major local directory placements. That alone, I would imagine, would get you to a good place in the rankings. Plus you don't have to sign a contract, and if you want to do your own link building afterward, you can.

Patch is a local news platform that AOL launched. It can be a pretty effective way to reach local customers via writing content. They offer advertising but it isn't cheap. I guess it depends on the usage in your area. Some local Patch's are really high traffic and some are pretty dead. Each one has it's own local manager and they seem to make, or break, the site's success.

AOL is about to dump Patch within the next quarter or two. FWIW.

Is that official because, although it isn't profitable, they've had major growth in the past 12 months and they just launched a new UI?

Even if they are shutting down you can still capitalize on their market for the time being with timely content. It's spring, do an article on "5 signs you need a new deck" or "Start the year off right for your lawn". The content is useful for driving content rather than just getting the link.

It is not official. And sure, you can still use it, but they are going to blow it up because no one reads it. Just buy right.

In other words, all advertising works depending on what you buy it for!
