There may be nothing that I can personally do about it, but we wont know unless we do talk. I'd like to see exactly what you're talking about and help, if possible.

Re: I Offically Love Service Magic And Here Is Why

Shawn, up to this point I thought you understood the problem. Your last couple of posts leads me to believe that you drank your companies kool-aid.

I especially chuckle over your view that if someone is not accepting leads from SM, that he is not interested in leads generated from his website. Your company is cannibalizing others web presence. It's plainly obvious.

Again, I never used your company. I never will. Your company has still linked itself to my name, to lead customers to its own website.

Legally, I have no idea where you guys stand. It has caused myself to view your company as scam artists. At some point I would suspect someone bringing a class action lawsuit against Service Magic. I can't think of a company more deserving.

Re: I Offically Love Service Magic And Here Is Why

Service Magic advertises on Paid to Click sites offering .50 cents.

A lot of stay at home moms do surveys and get paid.

My wife has been doing them for the last 2 months,
they could make anywhere from $60 to $120 a month doing surveys,
cash offers and reading emails takes around 1/2 hr to an 1 hr a day.

Service Magic put up a cash offer for .50 cents
to anyone that needs a home improvement project.
All they have to do is click on the link fill in there name and contact info and there account is funded .50 cents.

They were buying the leads for .50 cents..!!!!

The wife of course did the offer...
We did need a estimate on a getting our driveway paved but we had 4 paving contractors call us...

So Service Magic made some good money off that .50 cents...

Most people that do Cash Offer,Surveys and Emails do every offer available to make money if they need it or not.
I wonder how much Service Magic made off them .50 cent leads...

Here is a screen shot of the wifes cash offers...Go down 7 lines you will see the Service Magic Credit for .50 cents...

Walker, your post is too big even for my new wide-screen.

But selling them several times at $9 - $90 to contractors.

If true, that sounds like fraud.

Paying people to inquire for projects so they can sell the lead to a contractor? At the very least, it severely de-values the quality of their leads if they are paying to receive them.

Re: I Offically Love Service Magic And Here Is Why

Shawn, SM has a lot of eplaining to do but they just play the soothing music a little louder.

All you contractors do your homework, you must be very careful when doing business with companies that get your credit card information.

I have collected well over 100 stories from companies that have been dissatisfied with SM. I have seen a few posts saying how great SM is.

Here's what you can do, if your considering a lead gen company then check out that company by contacting the happy guys.
Do they have a website?
Does the phone number go to the lead gen or the company?
Does the company have a business address?

I researched some happy LGS customers and found out that the businesses didn't exist, this was verified by another contractor who did this with me.

Do your homework, check the company out good, maybe you can get one of those low limit credt cards. And read the damn agreement.

I wish I could tell you I hear good things about some lead gen companies, but its over a year now that I have been researching this and the information I am getting from some solid and experienced contractors tells me I will never sign up for these services.

Shawn, can you respond to this?

Does ServiceMagic participate in these work-at-home programs that pay folks to submit projects?

What's the fuss about? This is old news. There are sites all over the web who's business is collecting money, and paying it back out just for clciking ads all day long. Some people make a great living by clicking adwords and any other ad they see on any and all sites.
Nathan makes money if he has ay ads here and somebody clicks on them. An honest site owner puts up ads and takes whatever comes their way. The dishonest ones join sites that are 'Pay per Click' based.
That's why all advertisers have so many clicks per sales.

ChrWright - I’m not familiar with the work at home program you mentioned. We’re taking a look into it and I’ll share what I find when I have more info.

You're not familiar with the work at home feature.

Shawn~? If this is accurate, that people who do these work at home surveys are getting paid 50 cents to fill out a "lead" slip with you guys, and in turn you guys sell it to 3-4 (supposedly) contractors at a rate of say,...$50.00 each time......wouldn't you have to agree that the quality of that lead is seriously at question?

I'm not being funny, or "trite" here,..but would very much like your "take" on this.

This is the screen capture of the ad they post on Inboxdollars.com. Sign up and you will see it in the cash offers on page 4.

Re: I Offically Love Service Magic And Here Is Why

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I was not familiar with the InboxDollars program and appreciate your patience while I completed my research. Here’s what I found:

We have a team that focuses on looking for ways to identify and capture consumer inquiry about local services projects. As part of those efforts we began working with InboxDollars and other similar affiliates to drive consumer awareness and traffic. The intent and design of these affiliate programs are to provide discounts or incentives for serious purchases / submissions, not merely to support a ‘pay-per-click’ type of campaign.

When we entered into these channels, we believed we would be able to create value for both our consumer and service professional members. In retrospect, we feel that we should have done a better job of viewing these marketing channels from your perspective, and admit that we dropped the ball in this area. We understand your reactions and think they raise valid concerns. Based upon those concerns we have decided to discontinue marketing through channels that give consumers an incentive to submit a service request.

Again, thanks for bringing this to our attention and as always we appreciate and respect your feedback.”
