Refinishing Costs

I'm an owner of a flooring company where we both install and refinish hardwood floors. I'm curious if any other refinish company has an estimate of how much their supplies cost per square foot? I've thought about having my guys record EVERY belt/disc/stain gallon/finish gallon they use per job for say 6 months, then I can find the average cost per square foot. I'm just curious if anyone has any figures on it. I do have estimates myself and I'll share how I calculated them in a future post but want to see others for comparison.

Appreciate the help in advance.

How long have you been in business?

They have a nice website. https://flawlessflooringllc.com/

FFlooring - Generally speaking pricing questions are frowned upon. The best way to find out is by the plan that you outlined above.

Re: Refinishing Costs

We've been in business 7 years now, and do have an estimate per square that I've been using - just wanted to compare the number to others. But never have done a hard count of inventory like I said.

Johnson - didn't know that, thanks for the heads up

Re: Refinishing Costs

One of my suppliers said they try and get 15% of revenue.

On sales of 275 I usually run about 80-90k materials and direct costs.

Re: Refinishing Costs

The costs won't vary much supplier to supplier.

The amount of material your employees waste and/or steal will vary a lot. I would focus my attention on making sure your employees are efficient.

The finishers I've known who run crews often have trouble with their employees using materials for side jobs.

Re: Refinishing Costs

I save 20-30 percent on my belts buying them at USSander.com. I get 40 grit belts for 4.15 and my local supplier usually wants 8.5-9.

Other than that an edger disc costs $.92 and finish costs the same.
