Need Help With Tile Flooring

I've got a job redoing kitchen for some family I'm a full time mechanic with minimal carpentry experience learning as I go. I've kind of got myself stumped on this one though. The house was originally a moblie home that has had additions added on through previous owners so half the kitchen /dining room area is wood floor the other half is a concrete slab I know I'll have to add concrete board on the wood half for the tile but when I do itll be a half inch higher than the concrete slab part so how should I go about getting the floor level? Resurface concrete 1/2inch thick? Put concrete board on concrete?
