Cutting 18” X 36” Vinyl Tile

I am looking for some ideas in order to scribe and break 18” x 36” vinyl tile (commercial grade) I am thinking of some type of jig or any other offerings you folks may have. I have over 5000 sq ft with a large number of partition walls for a dentist office.

Thanks in advance

How thick is it? Depending on what its made of, some can be heated with a heat gun and cut with a utility knife. Others need to be sawn. I use a jigsaw for cuts with curves or a lot of ins and outs. Get a diamond blade made for ceramic tile. You might check with a tool rental place to see if they have a shear big enough for what you are working with to do the straight cuts at the walls. It’s way quicker than sawing and not as messy.

"see if they have a shear big enough for what you are working with to do the straight cuts at the walls."

That's what I was thinking, seems like it would be a good way to go.

It's only 3mm thick vinyl, similar to 12 x 12 tiles you see on the floors of stores.

There are a number of vinyl tile cutters on the market. Lowes for one.

The only method I have seen used was a propane torch with the shorter squatty bottle. They leave it on, run the tile over it and cut it, they were working fast also. I think there was a shear there also but most of the time they used the torch which they moved with them on a dolly.

Re: Cutting 18” X 36” Vinyl Tile

For irregular shapes and scribes I would usually just use a heat gun to heat up and cut with a utility knife
