Bostich Stapler Not Sinking Staples

Hi guys. Hope someone can help or advise me. I had a very old no name floor stapler I had forever. The casting finally split in half and I had to toss the gun. One of the floor guys I use from time to time gave me a Bostich MIII. It's practically new, but I can seem to get the staples to sink far enough. I went from 2" to 1 1/2" staples and it didn't make a difference.

I tried regular Bruce hardwood at my house to get a feel for the gun. I had to set tons of staples to get the boards close and eliminate gaps. I wasn't using any of the spacers. i feel bad asking the guy that gave it to me because if it's broke I will feel like an idiot. I do enough floors to need it, but never had to trouble shoot staples not sinking.

Thanks for the help

It doesn't appear to be hooked up to an air supply...

Haha...good thing I fixed the upside down picture. Something tells me they don't work that way either.

I usually run at 90lbs. At first I thought it was low, but once at 120lbs I figured something isn't right.

In all seriousness...is there a jam? Correct size staples? Decent manufacturer of staples? (obviously check without being attached to air supply)

Re: Bostich Stapler Not Sinking Staples

He told he bought the gun as a back up. Used it maybe 2-3 times. I am using the correct Bostich staples with it. I didn't get a manual and can't find one online. There is no obvious adjustment on it. It drives them, just need another 1/8" more out of it.

Is the driver the correct length, or has it been cut down or broken off?

Are you oiling it? It sounds like a busted driver.

I am religous about oiling all my air tools. With that said, I don't think I ever oiled this since I had it. Might be a good first step.

Re: Bostich Stapler Not Sinking Staples

Maybe the piston bumper swelled up? I'd try taking about 1/8" off & see how that works.

I once bought a new 16ga gun that acted erratic, & it ended up having Teflon tape blocking up some air passages.
I'd tear it down & look for something obvious, & then grind down bumper.
