I would say mig with gas, getting all the slag off would be a lot of work! they looks cool though. maybe extend the trunk down so it could be buried for stability?

Use a 100-150grit diamond wheel with a 4" grinder. Seal it with a good sealer and then get a 4" 100 resin pad(dry) to give it a little shine.
