Grapple or Thumb

Do you guys prefer working with a grapple or a bucket with a thumb for doing demo? Which is your preference and why?

What do you see as the advantage or disadvantage of each?

Any favorite tricks when wrecking with a grapple or thumb? Please do share.

Thanks, guys.

Have a full size backhoe

And the steel and temp. to build. No time . What i see used in the bay area are track excavators with thumbs. I.ll use mine to set large stone

Wolf,

A machine that is doing just demolition a grapple is the way to go. If the machine spends more time doing other things the thumb and bucket is the way to go. We sold our grapple and put on a hydraulic thumb.

Grapple, by far.......we can handle the rebar and steel off of bridge decking.
Then there's the hammer for the piers................
Be safe,
JAY

Did you get to plow through the whole building? That is a pretty neat looking building. What is the story there?

No, sorry. Didn't mean to mislead you. I'm just an electrician. I just thought it was a neat picture.

Neat MD. I looked closely at the pic. I believe that's a historic brick building that was 'brick-veneered' at some point. I believe it's being restored. Look to the left where the veneer brick has been peeled.
