Figuring Demolition Volumes

Im currently working on teaching myself how to estimate projects. I work for a guy that is willing to show me his numbers on projects he bids. I am going through and figuring the projects myself, then comparing his numbers to mine. Most of this is not an issue. Until now. I am trying to figure out volumes of a gutted house, two layers of shingles,2x4 walls, small basement. Any equations that I could use to figure this out? I would prefer cubic yards vs weights, as all our demo debris is sent to the landfill at a per cubic yard basis.
