1911 Home Demo.

I start in three weeks (on closing), with the demo of the interior of a 1911 home. In the basement is an old steam system with asbestos all frayed and small circuit breaker connecting nob and tube throughout the plaster and lathe walls. My initial thought was to put in a 200 amp service and disconnect the nob system and supply from the new service enough branches to support the remodel.

We are above freezing now, so removal of the steam system and it's asbestos can occur (to late though one registar burst this winter).

Am I obligated to remove the asbestos system prior to any sub work contracted?

(I am new to some of this so be kind)

Can you legally do this without certification? Just curious.

Not in any state I know of. You also don't have to remove it if the new work can be done without disturbing it. It is recommended in public buildings to isolate it.

Are you going to save any of the woodwork or architectural features of the 1911 house that you are going to demo? Anything good in there, or is it all pretty much trashed already?
