What Kind Of Jobs Have You Turned Down?

I read on here about jobs you guys get, but what about the ones you turn down? I had to turn one down this weekend. A guy wanted the frame of his old '67 something blasted, but he didn't want to take the body off of the frame and he didn't want any sort of mess. The engine was still in and I could tell right away, he wouldn't have been happy with the mess that was left behind. I told him I really hated to turn down work, but I would've done him more harm than good. He said he appreciated my honesty and said that most people would've just done it and stuck him with the consequences. I still feel bad for turning down the work, but I think I'd have felt worse if I'd have done it and ruined his engine. I realize it falls on him to cover that up and all that, but ultimately, he'd blame "the blasting guy" for ruining his classic car project and I didn't want that.

So, what have you turned down and why?

You might get more responses in the "General" thread.

I have walked away from a few jobs that looked ripe for losing money. Mostly based on the state of the politics on the job at the time.

Walked form insulating the glass on the Federal building in Oklahoma City. The job was nationally recognized in the media because of the bombing and the customer whom I would have worked for (project manager for the glazier) had miffed up a job not to long before this one and expected me to straighten his mess for free, which I did.

But on this one, I let a competitor that had been chasing the account get in there and try his hand on that one

Maybe a better question is what jobs have you done that you SHOULD have turned down! I know I've done a couple of those.

how about the 2 30 ft silos at the wastewater treatment plant in my county.they asked me to come bid the job and so i did but the second i go on the property i knew i was well under equiped.the paint contractor was very impressed that i told him up front that i was not his guy and he even let me in on who was bidding and what the price was,so i got to bid for fun and make sure i wasnt way off.the contractor also said he would highly consider me the next time he had something smaller.time will tell
