Re: Want Used 375 To 400 Cfm
Yes you right. I was not thinking about nozzle size when I wrote the comment, I do run a #4 nozzle most of the time @100psi when I put a #5 nozzle on I turn the psi down to 90 so the compressor has a chance to keep up. I get an hour out of a #4 nozzle @100psi and about 40 minutes from a #5 but to be honest The extra area I cover from using the 5 nozzle is out weighed by the extra soda I use especially at my soda prices, my time cost me nothing, soda costs me a fortune $65 per 50lb bag! now I can see why you guys get the jobs done faster the me, using #7 nozzles and up would definately get the job done faster. I bow to your knowledge and wisdom

Re: Want Used 375 To 400 Cfm
The video on my web site is soda. You can see the white cloud from it. I was using Natrium 260. I also use walnut and I have used fine glass just once. I think you have to be a little more careful with the glass. You will always get a texture and bite in to the gel coat no matter what you use. It will never be smooth after blasting although it can be wet sanded and buffed back to the origional shine. I get walnut a little cheaper than soda so I like to use it. I have a boat dealer that sets boats up at their place for me so I use soda only because it washes away with the next rain. I wouldn't want to leave them a mess of walnut all over, and I don't clean up after a boat. I show up blast it and I'm outa there. Have you had a boat to do?

I have a surface tek pot I like it very much. I did't get there aftercooler though. They use 185 so I don't think they have one to sell that is for 400cfm

Holy carp! I don't know $65 a bag? That's huge. I pay about $23. us here. I find I use about 3 to five 5 per job. I have been able to charge about $25 per foot.

Re: Want Used 375 To 400 Cfm
betterblast...i also use a surface tek pot and 185 airman from surface tek.the aftercooler came mounted to the frt of the compressor and i pulled it off and mounted to the side of my truck and works great...
23 $ per bag here also picked up about an hr away...soda it all comes down to the per bag price for desired result. boats had to be sanded to gain adhesion in the first place so it is sure to never have the same smoothness as it was from the factory.it is a fable to say it will be just as smooth as it was.... my next compressor will be able to run 2 men at a no7 nozzle all day...

Benny, My family is used to the traveling also. In my work we have gotten used to the sacrafices in order to make the family company work. You are way at the top and Im about a quarter of the way. In the whole world one of 25... Benny I think about what you do for the eight to ten hours I zone on steel sheets every day. I own and operate but when you blast the mind will run wild.

Yeah Blastserv, I think 25 is a little low too but I wasn't getting jobs when I was 40. I don't know if you are also jacking them up and if you clean up after or just blast and leave like I do. I'll try to put my price up as I get more work. I would think it would be more competitive in Fl.

Re: Want Used 375 To 400 Cfm
I have done a few boats with soda and a #4 nozzle, my general charge rate is $130 per hour or for boats $55 per square meter, I have done 2 40 foot V hull charter boats both of them took me just over two days to do and they were $2,500 per job, but if my calculations are right you guys are charging $25 per square foot (10 square feet per square meter) so a 45 square meter boat (454 square feet x $25 per square feet = $11,350 !!!! ?????? I use 20 to 25 bags per boat. all the boats in my area have never been stripped before one of them was 11 years old, 2 coats of antifouling per year x 11 years = 22 coats of paint ( of course it's less then this because it wares away but still) it was very thick, cracked and hazed hard antifouling, I do it wet due to being close to waterways and dust drift onto other boats although I do tarp them up

Re: Want Used 375 To 400 Cfm
I didn't do a 40 footer yet. Just up to 24. I would charge more for one that size. Looks like you got around $60 a foot. I'm not sure how you figurte out how many square meeters there are? I havn't had to tarp one yet or clean up after. I leave that all up to them. I would have to charge higher for any extras. It must take you a while to un load a few tarps and cover a boat that size before you can even get started.

Re: Want Used 375 To 400 Cfm
I just use clear plastic and tape it to the boat about half way up the hull right around then if required I will put plastic on the ground to catch any waste, at the end of the job I throw it all away, give the boat a hose down then tell them to acid wash it before putting new antifouling on. The first boat I ever did the marina guy said not to worry about tenting the boat (I do the boats with water) as the dust was not a real problem the next day after I finished I went back to give the guy the bill and he was complaining that there where these yellow stains all over his boat, I figured that one of the coats of antifouling must of had copper in it and as the dust settled and dried it left the copper stain on his $100,000 yachts gelcoat, I s&&&t my self at first then got some diluted hydrochloric acid and gave it a wipe and it came straight off so I went around and wiped all the stains off and hosed it down again, Now I tent them off and leave as little of the gelcoat exposed as possible and give it a good wash before I go.

Re: Want Used 375 To 400 Cfm
Wow that' must have been scary seeing the stains. I'm glad to hear you were able to clean it and get paid. I have done them all dry so far. No one has asked me to cover one yet. They are up kinda high on the jacks it still sounds like a chore climbing up on it but one day I'm sure I'll have to. I see that Chesipeak soda blasters put a tent around the painted area. I don't know how they can see what they are doing and I think it would be hard to drag the hoses around with plastic and would beams all over.

Re: Want Used 375 To 400 Cfm
Up here in Maine, The state wants (but not Enforced) all boats to be tented off. Then cleaned up. It’s the ainti- fouling paint that’s a plant killer. We use shrink wrap tape to hold on the plastic to the boat and plastic the ground under. We use quick clamps to hold the bottom and side plastic together. On front and back, Landscape felt works good, lets the air out so it doesn’t blow the tent apart.
They also see the waste material as Special Hazardous and needs to be dumped or transported in a certain way. I’ve been charging around $45 -$50 LF. Beams under 12 foot tall. Or $175. hour Did a 30’ speed boat, that was harder than a sail boat, Had to lay on back, the guy didn’t get the boat up enough. I don’t move boats! When they fall over it cost like heck!

Re: Want Used 375 To 400 Cfm
I bought my equipment off Chesapeake Soda Clean. I got to say these guys have their s___ together!!
Yes, you can see in the tent, with the felt on the ends, the air moves out of the way (in the spot where your blasting) but yes the tent does collect a lot of dust. ![]() I use on a 28’ sail boat, 12’ tall – with a ¼ keel fin, 6 -8 bags of soda (have used 10 on a stubborn one)

Re: Want Used 375 To 400 Cfm
I have no idea what our state would want. I would't want to call and ask. I just had a guy ask if I do his car at his home will it be ok with his township. How the heck would I know? I said if he wants to ask them first he can , but I wouldn't open that can of worms. I just figure if no one complains there won't be any problem. I draw the line at lead paint. If I think it's lead I won't touch it. I'd love to know all the laws and do everything right. If oyu go to a states web site it's impossible to find a simple step by step of how to paint or blast out doors. It's up to ythem to make the info readily available. They know everyone is scared to ask.
