Upgraded Blasting

Well guys, I took a few steps forward. I just purchased a 600# clemco pot and a 600# Schmidt. I might sell the Clemco not sure yet. I am still running the 185 ATLAS and will upgrade to a 375 as soon as money is right. It got old filling that 100# Clemco I have been using. Im not going to know what to do now.

Re: Upgraded Blasting

Well, found the Clemco in Chicago,300 miles from me. I was bidding on another E-bay. The auction ended when I was headed to Chicago and the reserve was not met on the pot. Got home and had an E-mail from the seller who offered me the pot at an unpassable price. It is much newer than the Clemco and had everything I could ever need. So...................I bought it and they even brought it to me 300 miles. Could not pass it up. So the Clemco pot will be for sale soon. I just blasted it and am going to paint it. All remotes work 100%. It is just for the Pot and plumbed remotes, no hoses. I am now looking for a new type of pulling rig. I would like to some how build a platform on the back of the compressor to sit it on. I may go with the trailer mount of compressor and pot but not for sure, hate to spend any more $$. I also thought about getting one of those pick up truck bed boom pole lifts so I could put it in and out of the back of the truck. Those things lift up to 1000#'s for just under $200. Whats you take on all of this Plaz? You have seen my set up with my 100# pot in other posts, may just mount it where the 100# pot was.

Kill... I wouldnt go for the pickup boom. Too much hastle. The best thing to do is spend the $$ and get a trailer mounted setup.

In my setup, i my 210 CFM compressor sits on a 12' tandem deckover trailer. On the right side of the trailer, there's a 6' ramp that flips down so i can move the pot on and off the trailer. Now i dont have to deal with lifting the pot in the pickup. I simply roll it down (with help, its a 420 lbs pot) Trailer is a tandem axle, 3500 lbs each, with electric brakes, and pintle hitch.

My trailer has space for the compressor, pot, and all the hoses, and probably could fit a few hundred lbs of media easily.

When ever i have to blast, hitch and go.

Re: Upgraded Blasting

The trailer might be in the future plans, also thinging about a 1986 1 ton flatbed truck. My buddies dad has one he will sell me for $1000.00, needs nothing. What can you tell me about this pot? I am new to the big rigs. It is a Schmidt 6.5 SN K3343 MFG in 1990. I was wondering about the metering valve. I think it is a micro valve by Marco. Is the long tube on the back a water separator? I messed around with it a little today. There is a valve that goes to the metering vlave, is that suppose to be open when blasting or closed. I am assuming closed, and open if I have any cloggs. Let me know if you got some helpful info. I am going to replumb so I just have the air hose going into the moisture trap. Dont need those other two air out lets.

Last question, when I let off of the pneumatic deadman, the sand does stop flowing but I am still getting air out of the nossel. Is this normal, when the deadman is depressed, it takes a few seconds but the pressure builds up and starts blowing sand again?

Schmidt pots are good, thats what i have. My knowledge is very limited with blasting, but i'll try my best to help you out. I think thats the cleanout valve, to be kept closed.

I think thats normal with the deamman. i think you have abrasive cut off feature. it allows to blow air without abrasives in the air stream.

Re: Upgraded Blasting

nice little rig.I dont think any air or abrasives leaking by at the nozzel is normal at all once your deadman has been depressed.your valve is most likely worn out get a new one and leak should go away this is normal wear and tear due to the nature of the beast.

Re: Upgraded Blasting

Well the air slows down when I let off the Deadman and the abrasives stop. I guess I will have to open up the remote on the tank to see if it is stuck or just worn out. Plaz where did you get that trailor? I have been looking around here for one like that. I may just try to mount the big pot where I mounted the little one. Filling it would be my only problem, being up like that.

Re: Upgraded Blasting

The air is suppose to cut off completly at the nozzel when the deadman is let up. I will be taking it apart to see if the valve is seating all the way. What year is your Schmidt? Can you post some pics of the remots and abrasive valve? Just trying to see if it is similar to mine.

Re: Upgraded Blasting

You shoot soda only? In my area it is going for $80.00 a 100lb bag blasted. I checked my dist. and they priced me $950.00 for a skid of soda. Thats around $31.00 a bag.

Another quick question.. I was loaded up the Schmidt to day to mess around with it. I turned my metering valve all the way in so I was only getting air. I slowly backed it out to where I was getting a good stream. I started blasting with it and it started puking large amounts of media out. The clean out valve was closed. I truned the valve back in and started blasting and my media quit flowing again. Turned the valve out a bit more and it started again and began puking out media. Im kinda lost on this. I rebuilt the remotes and those work great!! I am shooting 30/60 slag, so it is real fine stuff. Lil help if you have the knowledge. The metering valve does not appear to be worn out.

In order to shoot soda, you need to have a pot designed to shoot soda. My pot is capable of shooting hard stuff as well, i just have to swap the sleeve out in the metering valve. Kill, it sounds like you may have a clog in the system, media is probably wet. Sand tends to hold moisture. Whenever i have damp media, my pot has a phenumatic vibrator.

Killzoneq2

It is $31 for a 100# bag or 50# bag?
I am paying about $25 for a 50# bag

Thanks
Tony

Re: Upgraded Blasting

Make sure your media is dry and clean allways use a strainer/screen when loading into the pot even if it's new and out of the bag.you most likely have some garbage at or near your foot valve.take it apart and clean it out, also use a metal wire like a coat hanger and bend it at the end like a small hook and shove it in the bottom and fish out any debris.some times you can get lucky by just chocking the pot a few times and debris gets blasted out,but if media is damp FORGET ABOUT IT empty out and replace with dry.to chock pot when problem happens signal your pot tender to kill the main air valve that pressurizes the pot on the pot quickly and open main air quickly going to the pot @ the valve {hang on to hose cause it will want to try and jump out of your hands} for one to three seconds at a time until you blast out the garbage. you can also diy

IB, you seem very knowledgable about blasting, could you tell me about the whistle signal? I want to start using the whistle system.

Thanks

im not sure you can retro that, its basically shakes the pot for improved media flow. you better check that valve for wear.

kill , is there anyway for you to regulate blast pressure?
