Trailers! What Are Your Current Projects??

I have been blasting the crap out of trailers. It must be the season, getting two a week dropped off. What do you all have going on??? I hope it continues. I also have a few sets of patio furniture blast and paint jobs here. I think I am going to start offering priming and maybe some small painting.

Kill,

How do you get these trailers? Do you advertise to them or do you go by word of mouth? For anyone else, where does most of your business come from in general. Does it come from ad's you've placed or from word of mouth from other things you've done? Just wondering.

Word of mouth is probrably the best.
I advertise in the phone book, the tailgate and rear door windows of my truck and a popular local paper.
Word of mouth and good service and workmanship is by far the best for me. If you think about the car restoration guys. They all know many others that retore or tinker with cars. You satisfy one he tells the whole car club. Once your name and reputation get out there it is amazing the calls you get. I was asked today to blast carpet off front and rear entry steps into a guys home because the glue is so strong he get it off by hand. One job I did the guy was painting his house and didn't want to hand scrape the trim around the windows so he had me blast them. I've blasted a wood chair one guy salvaged off the curb that someone was throwing away. Dressers, a wood bed frame.

MEDIA MAN,

Do you have a minimum charge for the small beans type of things like a small wooden chair or some window frames?

Re: Trailers! What Are Your Current Projects??

I had a few thousand business cards made and just started handing them out. Im about to put a small add in the paper. When people drop off small stuff, I let them know that it will get blasted when I get some more stuff to blast along with it. Usually take about a week to get enough small stuff to make it worth my time firing up the stuff....

Yes I have a minimum charge for those who don't want to wait. Ive been charging a minimum of $250 for2 hrs. or less. With the cost of everything nowdays I think I am going to up it to $300. It depends on who its for and what the job is. The chair I talked about...I blasted it at the end of the day. Took me about 5 minutes. I told him I did not want anything for it, but he ended up giving me a cash "donation" for my time. I wanted to do it as a free-bee just to get his business. He has a tree trimming business and has some equipment.
Another extra charge I have started to implement is blasting in residential areas (private residences). Just too much to contend with (liabilities) when you are blasting in someones back yard. Neighbors, trees and shrubs, underground sprinkler heads and such. Clean up is not as easy.
Another charge I have is a mobilization fee even though I advertise as mobile. Owning mobile equipment is not cheap so its worth a little more. Also it takes time to get everything loaded and ready to go. If I have to go someplace for only a couple hrs. I have to make it worth my time. I will waive it if it is a large enough job.
