Surface Tek Pots...troubleshooting Guide

ok well i am gonna be the first to jump in and start this because there are so many little things that i have found to be tricky with this type of pot.they make two different sizes and i have the 2.5 cuf pot wich is there blue unit.i have been working with this pot since i started and found there to be some quirks that i have listed for all to read and digest...

if you squeez the dead man and watch the pop up go up but slowly fall or not fall at all...
-most likely your stone filters on the greyish colored five way valve are filled with dust and are not letting the air to drop fast to enough...remove the filter with an 11mm wrench and see if it falls,if so then soak in gas and the use a blow gun and compressed air to blow them out and reinstall...
-you might have a broken wire on the solenoid for the five way valve wich are easily grabbed and broken by moving the pot,repairable but very advanced...
-you could have bought consumable tips from surface tek and they did not machine them properly and they do not fit in the chamber properly.polish them with an emory paper or equivalent and check for drag on the teflon seal...

if you squeeze the deadman and you dont here the air blast rushing out...
-your electromagnet on the two way valve either has a build up of dust and soda on the shaft and is not letting the magnet do its part and allowing the stem to lift therefore allowing the air to flow throught the valve.
-the electromagnet is bad and easily tested by removing the clip on the top and applying 12v to the wires and sticking a scredriver through it and seeing if the scewdriver is magnatized.

if you squeeze the deadmand and you have media for a few seconds and then it goes lean no matter how much you richen the media rod...
-most likey cause is trash was dumped into the funnel and is sitting on the tip and plugging the chamber and allowing just enough media to flow to keep you working but waste a good couple hours going on and off the trigger...


some other things i can recommend to have on hand no matter what the cost because during jobs when the pot breaks down it is not the end of the world and easily repaired to keep the progress going...
-white teflon orings for the chamber
-black orings for the pop up plate on top
-two way solenoid
-five way valve solenoid
-tips and chambers
-at least 150 ft of deadman power cord
-3/16x10-32 set screws for the tips (stripped or dropped)

i have had some real hard on myself days with this piece of equipment and if i can allow someone else to read from my mistakes and be able to get themselves out of a jam then the goal was attained...

here is my last job that caused me a bit of greif...

blastserv you will also want to get the tee fitting that the chamber goes into. It will get a hole wore through it. It has happened on both of my pots.

Tony, thanks for the insight...i have worn out the coupler that the hose threads into but not the tee...one more thing to have on hand...

dyer, i have been beating the drum for a while about the media i mainly use...i used starblast...it is in my opinion the best of the best for all kinds of jobs including cars
