Sandblasting Large Swimming Pool
Been asked to quote a pool roughly 4200 Sq.ft of total area to be blasted,
About how many blasting hours do you think? Im worried that I might take a while with my 210 CFM compressor. I'll be using coal slag on this on, something smaller than the 12/40 slag that i used on previous job because 1) i profiled the concrete too much , and 2) for a faster strip rate. With cleanup on all, Im figuring $10,500, i'll be washing down the entire deck and pool, blow & broom surrounding areas, tarping around 3 sides, maybe 9'-10' high |

With out a test blast it is only a guest. I would say between 50 and 70 hours with clean up????

Re: Sandblasting Large Swimming Pool
if thats the case, i dont think its possible to my compressor for this job. I will take too long. 70 hours / 6 blastings hours per day = 11.6 days!
Tony, if i were to rent a 375 CFM or maybe even 600-750 CFM, how much would you estimate? |

Wow! ok, that's a big pool - but really that much time to blast? stuff must be really tough to remove. Remind me to never take on a pool if I get into other types of media blasting. Of course we don't have pools up here in Canada, only ice rinks so no worries I guess...lol.

Re: Sandblasting Large Swimming Pool
four hours if it is epoxy all you have to do is profile the surface. if it is swimimng poolpaint. Burn it then bury it with home owner stuff or wash it with a 4,000 psi washer. That is if the caulking has held. If the caulk is gone you will have to grind the cracks and use vulkem 114 with a primer to seal them

Re: Sandblasting Large Swimming Pool
update, last year super sticks took me to 4000 sq ft per two blast nozzles per 10 hour day. I used the same nozzles through the winter and found no reason to use these. in close range they do not work. they increase the velocity of abrasive .25 percent on big blue steel. the nozzle does not work on small steel because it does not bend and it is hard to use. I am sorry to report you cannot increase your production unless you are on big steel jobs.

Re: Sandblasting Large Swimming Pool
Hi guys,
From the experience we've had with local sandblasters, a 20x40 pool 3-8 feet deep takes a day for them to blast and the cost is typically $2k. Hope this helps. Scott

Re: Sandblasting Large Swimming Pool
We use the largest media we can get when dealing with pools, most of the coating that the following company lays is comprised of concrete so the more profile the better we have been told so we beat the hell out of it with the media then we reuse it once or twice by sweeping it up into piles then sift and reuse. This process enables us to save on media and provide the profile that the coating companies like. We blasted a very very large public pool this summer and it took 3 blasters going almost 24hrs a day for 2 weeks to get it done. We charged about 65k for the total job and we used about 35 2k pound bags of glass.

Re: Sandblasting Large Swimming Pool
blasting pools is my main business.. your probably looking at 24 to 36 hours to blast a pool that size gathering you are punting in 12hr days . it should not take more than two and a half days to blast and a half a day clean up... i generally charge $200 hr based on 36 hour of blast & clean up... so about $7200 but if you can get 10.500 great but the average is around $5000 to $8000 a pool...
