Pot Vibrator Installed Tonight

I put the Vibco on tonight.. I welded two bolts onto the cone of the pot for mounting. I ran a Tee from my 12v air valve and a line to the vibrator. That thing is a very quiet piece of equipment. The turbine is the way to go. I heard one of those ball vibs and it sounded like a plane taking off. I will be blasting some cob tomorrow so we will se how the cob goes through the pot with the vibco. I am also going to be blasting fenders with the cob so I will post some pics of that also. Will try to get a vid but don't know if anyone will be around to help. I am taking my wheel axle off to lower the axle also. When I put the Thompson II valve on it was alittle lower than the legs. I had to extend the legs with bolts and lower the axle so the thing doesn't tip over on me when I try to tip it back to move it. I put a hammer on the side of the pot and used my air compressor to power the vibco. The hammer jumped around like crazy.

Hello,

Just a word of warning, or I should say to let you know. Welding on a ASME coded pressure vessel violates that code. You can weld on the legs, but not the shell or conical cones (heads).

That's a good piece of advice because you better know what you're doing when welding a pressure vessel.

Jack of all trades master of none.. I have a miller wire with gas and an Lincoln arc. I used the miller on the pot. Im pretty cautious when welding on that thing. Thanks for the advice....

Re: Pot Vibrator Installed Tonight

Killz, Really one thing about it is, the pot is a ASME Coded vessel. What you did probably did not hurt it any, but one thing is if you ever decide to sell the pot then you are taking on the responsability legally. If years later the pot fails and someone does get hurt or worse then the welds on the pot will be the first places looked into and the question will come up as WHO done the aftermarket welding on the vessel? And remember, these forums here are ALL PUBLIC. OSHA is not concerned about this now. It is a real concern that someone welding on a pressure vessel can cause the vessel to become week. Spot welds really would not weaken the pot to failure under normal working conditions, but say doing some heavy duty weldiing can and will weaken the surrounding surfaces. It does not matter what brand welder that you have, it all depends on the qualification of the person doing the welding and the material being used. What has been given is good sound advice. So, now that you own the pot and have decided to weld on the pot yourself, you are really stuck with owning the pot forever. As long as you own the pot that is fine, just be aware if you ever decide to sell the pot, you are the responsable party now.

Not to derail the conversation, but is this thing running all the time when your pot is pressurized? Do you have any provisions to keep stray sand from backflowing into the vibrator? How much did it cost? What does it use as far as air consumption? Thanks

Green I think the vibrator just attaches to the outside. Nothing can get in to it.

Re: Pot Vibrator Installed Tonight

Mr Abbott (painter 213) said it very well.

If the vessel is sold and IF something happens OSHA will be involved. And wherever they are fines follow. Just becareful. No media will ever touch the device Green. It just vibrates the pressure vessel to help light weight media flow. 60 degree cones and epoxy-lined cones help as well.

Re: Pot Vibrator Installed Tonight

I meant if the compressor dies or you have an air leak, is there anything to keep the media from backflowing into the air line going to the vibrator, I understood from the pics that media won't ever touch the outside of the unit. Just curious

Re: Pot Vibrator Installed Tonight

That depends entirely upon how it was plumbed. If it receives air from a direct source away from the air plumbing on the pot then no. But if it receives the air from a 4 way valve or something in line then it is possible.

Re: Pot Vibrator Installed Tonight

It is bolted directly onto the cone.... no media will ever be in contact with this vib unit. the air line runs from the 12v actuator that feeds the automatic valve. It is pretty wild, the whole ground shakes when blasting...And I can shut it off if I want.
