Panderson2414

Intro,
I am new to this site. I found this page through "paint talk". I did not think a site for sandblasting and its related topics had a site. I have completed many jobs with soda, plastic media, glass, iron oxide, garnet and coal slag. I am a coatings contractor in the upper midwest. I have read some of the threads in this room and I have some input. I have a soda pot, a plastic media pot, three blast pots and one set up for my very own specialty. The industry that I serve most is fertalizer. I blast and coat tanks. That is what we do best. I also do paint stripping for cars, mold, and fore restoration

Re: Panderson2414

Panderson2414 this question is for you! I am the owner of Bulldog Media Blasting and Powder Coating. My company is 6 months old and I am always looking for companies, businesses, etc to contact whom I feel could use our services. I was intrigued about your post regarding the "fertelizing industry".
Could you please expand on that topic? What types of businesses these are, what it is you do for them and how you find them. We are in Ohio and may have some of the same opportunities here that I am not aware of. Look forward to hearing from you!

panderson2414

Welcome!

Where in the Upper Midwest are you from? I am in North Dakota. There are already two large industrial coatings companies here so I don't do much coating myself, well I'll prime and paint customers rims if the moneys right but I am set up with another company that does specialize in industrial coatings. I am also networked locally with body shops that will do my automotive coatings. I quickly learned that the blasting goes hand in hand with the coatings. I just do not want to invest in all the equipment and have the extra overhead.
Anyways, just interested in where your located. Also I am curious to learn what the name of your company ASI, is an acronym for.

Re: Panderson2414

I started out painting tractors and trucks in high school. I made great money for an 18 year old. Then I got married had some kids and found out what it really cost to be self-employed. I needed a house, insuarance and an income that could support a family lifestyle. I upped prices got into plastic media blasting, soda blasting and anything else no one had ever heard of yet in th 90's. I painted heavy equipment, state trucks, lawn chairs...you name it I was still going broke. The media blasting part of my company took of in 2000 I bought it in 1997 that was four long years. I was about to sell it when a street rodder told me to go to back to the fiffties in St. Paul. I traded a guy I knew, I blasted his 56 thunderbird for free If he would haul it there and have it on display at the swap meet. I handed out 3,000 cards that day. BINGO. I am from Minnesota, in between Rochester and Austin. The name of the town we are in is Adams, pop 800. The part of my company that is the big money maker is tank painting. That is the fertalizer part of it. I paint Nh3 tanks, liquid fertalizer tanks, storage bins, grain elevators, l.p. tanks, and I coat the insides also. This is the only job I have ever done and I try to be the best at what I do. I am going to start work in Missouri this March are any of you guys close to St. Joe I will be posting some pics. Later tonight

Re: Panderson2414

plazaman I use ADS 400's. They have a heat exchanger on the top and a dessicant chamber on the bottom. I took some pictures yesterday. I cant get them up. The air dryer is made by Schmidt. I can run in any humidity with this. I use Armex and Natrium. What do you use.

To attach pictures,

on the bottom left of this forum, click the green "post reply button"

type in your reply and scroll further down on the page where it says "additional options" click on "manage attachments" click "browse" and locate file on your pc, then click upload. after its uploaded, close the window and click on "submit"

I dont understand, you are using ADS air compressors correct? And a Schmidt dessicant dryer correct? What about the heat exchangers you mentioned? are they separate from the schmidt dryer setup?

if you get a chance, check out this thread:

http://www.contractortalk.com/f95/new-member-30434/

convo between me and mediaman about my moisture issue.

thanks

Re: Panderson2414

Plazaman I did all the stuff with the pictures on monday. I went through all the steps. It will not upload pictures over 200 something. The air dyer system or ADS 400 is a schmidt product. I found a picture of your pot on Mediamans thread. That is a good looking unit. I looked for pictures of an ADS400 on the schmidt web site but they are being taken over by Axxiom Manufacturing I did not dig to far but you might find a picture some where. Vanaire makes a model that is close to the same thing. If you ever want to buy really cheap soda go to an elevator or feed mill and buy animal grade soda, it does not cut like natrium does but it works wonderfully for fire resto it is made by the same company that makes Arm and hammer and Armex. Do you use the same metering valve shown in Mediamans thread or do you have an actual soda valve. I just called on my prices for soda. Feed grade 50#bag$10.50. Armex 27.00 a bag. I would like to know if anyone is into other things like large scale coating and painting projects or if anyone has used their equipment for boat hulls.

Re: Panderson2414

e-mail me your pics, rich@perfectocorp.com, i'll post them.

Panderson, i use a thomson 2 valve is designed for small media such as soda. It has a sleeve that i can swap out for larger much such as slag.

i would love 1 of those schmidt units or a van air desicant towers, but space is very limited.
