Opportunity
A friend of the family called my mom and asked her to have me contact him about some sandblasting. So, I just got off the phone with him and he has recently purchased a coating business that has it's own 185 CFM pull-behind compressor. Also, just before it was sold, the previous owner purchased all new blasting equipment. The friend was basically telling me he didn't know that much about blasting and indicated that he may have some work for me and that the compressor would be for sale if I was interested because he wanted to possibly buy a new compressor. He told me to stop up any time and look around and give him a call so he could meet me up there. Who knows what it will turn into, but I was telling my wife that I'd be cool with it if he just saved a few hours of blasting for me to do part time in an evening and earn some extra cash that way. He just has the equipment for the business and has no intentions of using it to compete with me, so I see no reason not to help him out. Who knows what it'll turn into. This gentlemen has a knack for turning anything into gold that he touches.

Re: Opportunity
Well, I just met with him last night and it seems like it'd be a good relationship. He's going to keep me in mind for any blasting they need done and anyone who contacts him about blasting, he'll send them my way. He even provided me a lead on a HUGE amount of blasting. A lot of things would have to fall into place, but it's more of a lead than I've had before. He's very well known and has a lot of contacts. He was telling me about a local company who was trying to get a contract to refurbish thousands of scissor lift units and other equipment every year. They approached him about doing the blasting and painting, but that's not something he wants to deal with and suggested that I approach them. I'll start slow, but that is definitely something that sounds good. He volunteered for me to use his compressor and pot anytime I want. He showed me his equipment and he's got a brand new Schmidt pot, all new hoses, new respirator, etc... It's neat to see this stuff brand new because it doesn't stay that way for long. We'll see how things go.
