Looking For Equipment To Get Started

As the title indicates, I'm looking for any resources you guys might have in regards to finding used/new equipment at good prices. I figure the basics are the compressor and pot and then hoses and mask. While I'm at it, what ARE the basics? What setup would I need to go out Saturday and start blasting without getting to a site and saying "Crap, I forgot to..."?

Anyway, back to my original question. What websites do you guys visit to find stuff. I've been looking on e-bay at compressors and they seem high and few choices. I can't for the life of me find Schmidt's website and e-bay doesn't have many Schmidt pots it seems. Maybe I'm typing in the wrong keywords?

Do you guys go to auctions or a specific website for your stuff? Anything will help. I was wondering who you would contact on this forum to get a used/new blasting equipment page made up.

Re: Looking For Equipment To Get Started

Just to add to this as I have no clue when it comes to Sandblasting.

Would my compressor (Atlas Capco 185 cfm, 120psi) be sufficient for Sandblasting?

I get tons of calls to blast cars, not something I usually do with DIB because it takes longer therefore costs the client more. SO I was thinking of picking up a Sandblaster for my shop, doing those jobs when I get the calls (just got a call from Brinks today to do their trucks, bumpers, beds etc) - make money when there I guess.

What should I be looking at without going overboard? I might as well make it portable so I can take with me.

Thanks,

Mike

Yes, I use the same compressor with a #5 nozzle and a 600# pot .I'm no expert but if you are wanting to go mobile, and you work alone get a 300# pot. Its not to big and not to small, and you wont have to load it every 15 minutes like I did with my 100# pot.

Re: Looking For Equipment To Get Started

I'm assuming the # means the amount of media it holds?

great, thanks for the advice Killzone!

Mike,
Compressor - you already have
Blast Pot -If you are looking to get into sandblasting I would look into either a Schmidt or Clemco pot. Size determines how often you want to refill the pot each day. I have used both and liked them alot. Clemcos generally are a little cheaper in $ (new). I like to use these and stay away from others because they are easy to get parts for because they are used by more blasters therefore more venders carry them and their parts. If your are looking at multi-media pots make sure you purchase one that shoots coarse media as well as medium and fine. Not all multi-media pots will shoot coarse media.
Nozzle - determined by the amount of cfm of your compressor.
Blast hose - 2 or 4 ply (typically 1" I.D.)
Hose Couplings - Use polyuerathane not metal
Nozzle Holder - Again use poly
(media through the hose generates static elec.)
Moisture Sep - Usually come with the pot (or purchased with pot)
Air Fed Blasting Helmet - Bullard, Clemco or Nova
Filter and hose for air fed helmet
Deadman control - 12V or pnuematic (I prefer 12V; faster start and stop response)

Used equipment check out http://titanabrasive.com/
Clemco go to http://www.clemcoindustries.com/
Schmidt go to http://www.axxiommfg.com/
another good site http://www.marcousa.com/

Re: Looking For Equipment To Get Started

I look on the used sandblasting equipment place, but I don't know which ones are deals? Any ideas? I looked and that place is 106 miles from me. I know Ingersoll Rand is a good name. There looks like a pretty nice LeRoi with 657 hours for only $4950. From the browsing I've been doing, that seems good, but I'm not sure.

It looks and sounds like a fantastic mobile media blasting unit.

just got a quote from them... to quote the quote:

"The CRS blasting system is $8750.00 plus shipping. If you just

wanted the blasting pot itself without the aftercooler, air hoses or blast hose the price would be $7350.00 plus shipping to the USA and plus applicable taxes if you live in Canada."

in the process of getting quotes from t-tex industries for
SuperBlast® PORTABLES
ECONO-BLAST™ PORTABLES

i have their prices on Soda Storm machines though...
6-BAG SODA BLASTER (INCLUDES: MACHINE,
ALL VALVES AND HARDWARE, DEADMAN
HANDLE, TWINLINE HOSE, 50FT SUPERFLEX
BLAST HOSE AND #5 WIN NOZZLE) 5,465.75

walnut $14.00
soda $24.00

i got this quote from anderson sales for clemco pots:

With the complete OSHA package, which includes remote controls, 25' of 1/2" blast hose coupled, CT-4 nozzle, blast hose safety cable, 1/2" air filter, screen, Apollo 20 air-fed helmet, 25' respirator hose, CPF-20 breathing air filter, one pair of leather gloves, one 10 pack coupling gaskets one 10 pack nozzle washers, and 3 outlet valve diaphragms, the prices are as follows:

1042 ..... $2,540.00

Without the package, the machines with remote controls, (OSHA requirement), are as follows:
1042 ..... $1,720.00

more to come....

Re: Looking For Equipment To Get Started

I see those cheap complete blast trucks a lot in the used trade sites. They must be complete junk. That problast is the surfacetek pot in stainless steal. But stainless steal is brital by comparison so don't drop it off a truck, who knows.

Joel that Soda storm may be soda only. The pro blast and Tek are multi media. Depends what you want to do with it.

Problast CRS:

i have one. so far i am happy. the whole thing about their sales pitch on helping you with your business and technical support is ok but dont fall for it. they are salesmen. equipment is good. stainless pot, its only a 100lb pot but that lasts me 80 minutes with soda. thats time for a break anyways.
would i buy another one? probably.

complaints? yes, when i first bought it they werent the greatest for helping me get the bugs worked out of it and i didnt know about this site so i was on my own. took me a bit but i got it sorted out on my own
