Just Thinking Out Loud

Hello all, I have been reading around these forums for awhile but not posted. Anyway I own a commercial painting sand blasting business. I probably own more that my share of blasting equipment for sand. I have become more interested in soda blasting for work and hobby.

Can someone tell the the biggest difference in the equipment setup. Now I understand that sand is moved on a larger scale and at a higher pressure. The reason I ask is I had a 50# bag of course soda made by soft strip I think. Well one afternoon I wanted to see how my small Clemco pot would act with it. This pot is a .5 cf with a #4 nozzel if memory serves me. Anyway it blasted like a champ with the exception of using what I think was alot of media. Has anyone heard of using a sand pot for soda?

One last thing and I will stop rambling, where do you guys buy your soda? It seems ALOT more costly that old fashoned sand. Im guessing $1.25 per #.

Thanks,

Sharpe00

Re: Just Thinking Out Loud

soda pots have a have cone on the bottom. like my pot has a 60 degree cone. regular sand pots can blast soda, but consumption is alot more. dont want that since soda is very expensive at 25+ per bag.

Interested in your business, can you tell us a bit more about your operations?

Re: Just Thinking Out Loud

Plazaman, what is the purpose of the cone on the bottom of a soda pot or multi-media pot anyway? Does it just help with media flow because it uses a lighter media? If that is the reason could the same thing be done with a sand pot and a pot vibrator with a micro or thompson valve? I saw a pot for sale on E-bay setup that way. Just didn't know how good it would work. If so I've got a pot I would like to convert over. Anybody know anything about an A-BEC pot. I noticed you guys don't really say anything about them much. Are they junk?

Re: Just Thinking Out Loud

Plazaman, did you say $25? Is that for a 50# bag/box? Can you tell me where you get it for this amount?
To your question, I am a commercial painter and most of my work is bid work in the utility industry, I.E. water and wastewater facilities. I dont blast on an everyday basis only when the job requires it. But I have alot of equipment and I have been thinking of a way to use it on an everyday basis.
