Re: Help With Blasting A Car
I'm not sure if river boats actually would ahve the bottom paint on them. It's an anti fouling paint that used to have copper in it and I think they use somthing else now. Its purpose is to repel barnicles and think they only live in ocean water. So it may only be boats that stay in the ocean, not trailered, that have this paint. The paint is an ablative. It is made to wear down and expose new chemical or whatever hte heck they have in it and eventually they need to re do it. Many times they just want re buff the hull shiny again to add value back. The painted hull actually decreases there value somwhat. But then so do a thousand banicles gluing them selves to it. I have never painted a boat. But you just clean it and fix any blisters. If it is a wreck they put down a barrier coat first and then the ant foul. I like soda or walnut the same for this. Both will degloss the surface. It does not remain smooth and glossy and that is expected. I am still trying to find another good connection to get more work from boats. I have one dealer close by who will set them up for about $150. bucks and they let me blast them there. Many times the customer sets them up on there own at there house. I never set them up my self. Too much risk and time. I so far have never had to do anything but blast and leave. If they want to cover the hull there welcom to do that them selves. I just started with boats this year so I'm still learning about it. I've done about a dozen.

Re: Help With Blasting A Car
I grew up on a lobster’s boat in Maine, and have sanded many hauls buy hand with by brother.
One reason I have got into soda. I’ve moved inland some years ago but am still within 40 mins from The coast, Boats make up 1/3 of my business and is increasing. Just like cars people want you to come out and look at the bottoms. If there within 40 miles and I can’t tell what the haul looks like I go, most the time I shot them a price on the phone. Betterblast do you ever hear,” The Paint just falling off…it shouldn’t take that long?” then you get there and it takes all day! Just another way to try to screw you down… I tent in all boat bottoms. Maine requires (but not enforced yet) that all boat bottoms need tenting and the waste treated as Special Waste.
