Favorite Helmet
I am new to this forum. I'm glad to locate a forum for sandblasting. I bought a rig that was used to blast water towers.
The only item that was not included in the deal was blasting helmets. What brand do you guys like? I have found that Bullard, Apollo and Nova are the main players. I have the filters to operate off of the rig compressor but may use my shop air instead. Are any mail order/discount houses that sale below retail for helmets and supplies? Thanks Tom |

Re: Favorite Helmet
Rich,
My rig consists of the following: 1. IR 375 compressor 2. Clemco 600 pound pressure pot 3. Hoses, fresh air & supply hoses 4. Monitor system for fresh air. 5. Misc. tips and dead man valves, and stuff that was part of the operation. We are setting up a ocean container to house the gear a shelter to blast under. I'll send photos as we progress. Thanks, Tom |

Re: Favorite Helmet
Just thought I would place my vote for the Nova 2000 Blasting Helmet
Good quality, I have logged over 120 hours with that thing on my head.. Only complaint is --I have not figured out how to wire it with satellite radio |

Re: Favorite Helmet
I built my own rig,
The Nova Helmet has saved me- I do not think I could do the work without it, I actually look forward to putting it back on when it is hot outside.

Re: Favorite Helmet
I have used both nova and bullard 88's. I have used both of these helmets personally. I guess plazaman is either to good for us or he has reached the point that he is to rich to care what his employees wear for protection. I like the nova for blasting while standing up. If you have to roll around on the ground I like the bullard. The nova fits your head well but bullard stays on your head if you fit the head band right. I like to think of it as a hard hat. I also have facial hair and the Nova rubs me raw. The original sales man who sold me my first two Nova helmets gave me a great deal, 90 $ bucks a piece. I have some guys that love them I hate them. I have to keep up two lines of helmets with two different cooling tubes to keep my guys happy. If you plan to expand get one type and keep it.
