Everyone Staying Busy?
Obviously, this economy isn't that great and people are getting let go left and right. I realize this is a contractor (i.e. self employed) website, but have you guys noticed a decrease in work as far as blasting? Just wondering since I just do it on the side.

Yes, it's very bad indeed... I feel sorry for one of our members (BKFranks) goes from contractor to unemployed??.. and looking for work now.. see his post below (in looking for work/help section) and help to hire him if you could.

Re: Everyone Staying Busy?
I would suppose its based on where you are located as to the effect the economy has on your business. Some on here have posted that they are as busy as ever...
I know my business has been affected, most of my work (mould remediation) came from real estate deals - the area that I'm in has been really slow in the real estate market. As well, 2 of the plants that I sub contracted for had major layoffs and cutbacks - therefore my work was put 'on hold'. Good luck all! |

Re: Everyone Staying Busy?
Hello, I've owned my blasting business since 1989. It has had its up and downs. I'm in CT and even though the economic impact has effected wallstreet employees I've been busier than ever and growing. We just leased another building 6000 sq ft in a heavy industrial area in Stratford CT. With a little networking we have already filled the shop. To be honest I make more money on the road, but having even small things coming in helps pay the bills. Our shop is diverse, Sandblasting /welding/ painting. I wont ramble anymore (o:
i look forward to the insight I will recieve on here, thanks Jimmy |

Re: Everyone Staying Busy?
We are busy setting up another trailer. We just purchased another surfacetek pot this morning from there scratch and dent sale, except the fact you cant even see the minute scratch once all the piping it put on. saved us $1600 off a new one. We are staying pretty busy here but mostly it i the coating jobs that are getting us blasting work. Kinda how we like it, a little less messy. We have been in some talks with a couple dupont reps about their functional powders and are exploring all the different areas we can put them.
Bulldog I have not forgot about you, I promise one evening I wil give you a with some more information about all the cating we have been doing with the xiom system. I believe xiom may be in trouble because they are focusing too much on powders (& they simply can not compete with the likes of dupont) and not focusing on just the machines. We are anxiously awaiting their electric gun release but seems like we have been for a while now We have also been approached by some equipment companies but have shyed away from the hydrolic stuff. Can you spray soda around that stuff without too much trouble? Im not trying to be the guy to break the 100grand dozer. |

Re: Everyone Staying Busy?
We are busy but all to often we cut our own throat. Lots of work but none that is paying what we normaly see. I would love to get some work out of this xiom system but we haven't had any luck what so ever. I would really hate to have to sell it but we are giving up hope. Blast and coat call me sometime I would like to pick your brain on the subject. Thanks 701-202-8406

Re: Everyone Staying Busy?
Fortunately I have been able to keep about the same amount of work flow. I have been amazed that the work has remained as steady as ever.
