Compressor Keeps Blowing Nylon Tube...

My Sullair 185 has been blowing a nylon tube between the siphon tube on top of the sump and the bottom end of the compressor. It's happening more frequently now and every time it happens, it's in the same spot. What could be causing this?

Re: Compressor Keeps Blowing Nylon Tube...

Where on the tube is it blowing out? Could an exhaust leak be pointing at the tube? Does the tube pass near a heat source or a sharp edge?

Re: Compressor Keeps Blowing Nylon Tube...

Is your tube rated for the heat of the tank, the tank can run up to 190 deg.+
or is it rated for the psi. (Not sure of the psi it runs)

Check to see if it's chafing on a part or other things like exhaust to close or its near the screw housing etc...

Re: Compressor Keeps Blowing Nylon Tube...

The nylon tube that is on the bottom of your element (screw) and runs to the top of your separator is the scavenge line. It is constantly sucking the oil out of the element and putting it back in the separator. My guess would be weak rating on tube or bad install.

Re: Compressor Keeps Blowing Nylon Tube...

I got a tube rated for higher psi/temperature today. Going to go try it out in a little bit. Also, I believe that my engine idle speed and compressor pressure screw aren't set correctly. Does anyone know how to sync these two things up on a Sullair 185?

To gather clues you could reinforce the tube in that area by using strong cord and a

And most materials act differently for a steady stress vs. a periodic impact stress. The impact load may be within normal stress limits.

I was an idiot and my tubing wasn't rated for the correct PSI.

idiot/ˈidēət/
noun
a stupid person.

That is a probably a pessimistic interpretation of what happened.
A mistake is not the same as a blunder.
And I think your Family of Origin used that word a lot. Too bad it stuck.

Design defect?
At these many hours, could it be infant mortality?

Random bad part, bad luck?
Factory damaged the tube?

Depending on how you value your time I'd repair it before ordering a new part.

Re: Compressor Keeps Blowing Nylon Tube...

I blew a fan belt, and unit overheated...
fixed that but then it started blowing oil out the air end... Ya
so after changing all filters and checking lines. I check the scavenging tube, it has a little check valve that is no bigger then the line, just a spring and small washer with a pin hole in it. It was plugged up with a small piece of hair from the filter,
took that out, cleaned it, and have had no problems since then!
yep that's my day
Done one week waiting on back ordered filters...

Re: Compressor Keeps Blowing Nylon Tube...

Do they sell factory manuals with troubleshooting flowcharts for these things to consumers?
VCR manuals are $50, Stihl wouldn't sell me a manual for their leafblower and some vehicle manuals are $400 and you mostly can't use them.
