Blasting Pot Recommendations

Hi guys,

I am going to start look for a blasting pot to use for the crushed glass, slag, etc. What would you all recommend I look at?

Thanks
Tony

Re: Blasting Pot Recommendations

I have a Schmidt 600# and a Clemco 600# and a Clemco 100#. I would not trade my Schmidt for anything!!.They are virtually bullet proof. Most rental companies I have seen only rente the Schmidt with the micro combo valve. They are vertually maintainance free. I have had issues with my dead man but the pot is A+ to work with. I will be putting a Schmidt vlave on my Clemco as soon as it arrives. I am no expert, just adding my 2Cents...

Re: Blasting Pot Recommendations

Bulldog Media,
I use all Schmidt blast pots. They have always worked for me. I bought a new one in 1999 I put ten thousand hours on it. 07' was the first time I had major problems with it. The elbow that puts pressure on the pop up valve got a pin hole in it and was leaking abrasive back through to the twin line valve. I like these pots I have four different mobile rigs that run the same system. I have used Empire, Clemco, Abec, and a few other brands. The blast pot is the same. Schmidt came up with the Thompson valve you can adapt that to any blast pot. They also came up with the Thompson 2 this valve has a blue turn knob instead of a red one. I have to replace the urethane gasket in the bottom of the Thompson 1 every 20 to 40 hours depending on who manufactures the gasket. My new Thompson 2 valves have up 600 hours on them with no wear and no replacement of the costly 1" and a quarter air to abrasive mix pipe. I like the Schmidt pot. I also have a contractor friend that uses the same clemco pot he has had for 35+ years and he makes a half mill a year. He runs a 650 clem with a no.7 nozzle, His rig is a 3500 chev with a new 375 ingersoll every year. The guy is unique. I will never meet another guy like him again. The only guy that even comes close to him on this site is Ibesocal

Re: Blasting Pot Recommendations

pananderson, on the TV2 , do you get 600 hours out of a urethane sleeve or the tungsten sleeve? mine came with a tungsten sleeve, but wont allow me to run hard stuff. I had to swap out and buy a urethane for hard stuff

Re: Blasting Pot Recommendations

What year is the valve you are running? Schmidt was sold to Axxiom recently. I have always used tungsten sleeve. The urethane sleeve is cheaper but is supposed to be used for softer abrasive. It is also supposed to wear out faster. I have run 20/40 through the t2v and a have not have had a problem with clogging. I have lost 15 mins. per pot compared to 30/60 but it will not produce the profile required.
