yeah - dry ice is compressed frozen CO2 - not sure about concert fogger's but you can create that fog with hot water and Dry Ice mixed together.

Re: Blasting Old Furniture With Soda?

Alright, If we can't do a nice job with wood what if we beat it up on purpose? I used to work at a cabinet place and they would beat just built cabinets with chains to make them look "distressed". I have a theory that if I hit a small wooden jewlry type box with walnut and paint it then maybe sand off the top and paint a different color on the high grain and place it for sale in my shop, some chick will buy it from me. If it works there might be a spare time thing with treating garage sale furniture like this for resale at flee markets. I put out the challenge to all. Who will be the first to report they made cash from ruining a piece of furniture on pourpose.

Blasting wood with walnut shell grit will do a beautiful job to produce a 'distressed' look. The look is enhanced dramatically after staining. Of course, you won't get the nicks and gouges that chains would produce but the walnut shell creates a 'aged' and new look at the same time.

Re: Blasting Old Furniture With Soda?

What size pot and recycler? Price varies on that. They made a RASP Extreme pot for the U.S. Navy that is under 10. If you want the largest pot with recycler it is less than 2/3's of what he posted. The reason the equipment is different than a regular Clemco pot is that there has to be an agitator and an auger to feed the Sponge to the air stream. Conventional abrasives are heavy, Sponge is alot lighter. We also have been using the same blast hose for over a year. I do demos in shorts and short sleeves. Overall equipment costs are so much cheaper with Sponge than "conventional". Hope this helps....

DEGREASING AND PAINT STRIPPING USING SPONGE BLASTING

Revision Date:8/03Process Code:Navy and Marine Corps: IND-001-03; Air Force: ST01; Army: DPT Usage List:Navy: Low; Marine Corps: Low; Army: Low; Air Force: Low Alternative For:Sand Blasting and Chemical Paint Stripping Compliance Impact:Medium

Economic Analysis:The cost elements of a Sponge-Jet™ stripping system are compared to chemical stripping. Assumptions:
  • 20,000 square feet of paint to be removed per year
  • Paint stripping rate of the sponge blasting system: 180 ft2/hr
  • Paint stripping rate of chemical stripping: 25 ft2/hr
  • Labor rate: $30/hr
  • Foam media cost: $65/50 lbs
  • Foam media used: 18,000 lbs
  • Feed unit cost: $15,500
  • Classifier unit cost: $8,550
  • Washer unit cost: $23,700
If you go by what they say here and get all three pieces of equipment it is about $50,000. Perhaps you don't need all of it to start or you may find it at a better price. But I wasn't just guessing
