Blasting Moulds

Hi Lads, I tried to dry ice blast a rotational mould for a customer, the mould is coated with a uPVC type release agent, when applied previously it is then baked on. the DIB would not remove it, so my next option is a grit but for obvious reasons i cant damage the underlying surface. the pvc coating didn't really work for their process so it needs to be removed, any idea's on a type of media???

Re: Blasting Moulds

hit it with walnut, we have had luck with it in the past were nothing else would work, soda might work but I don't think it would be aggresive enough. Good luck.

Oz, you didn't say what the mould is made of. I agree walnut is a good choice t try before an abrasive. I would maybe hit the back of the mould first to see if you get damage.

Re: Blasting Moulds

Walnut or soda won't damage any kind of metal that I am aware of. even at higher preassure. The Soda might be the better choice if there are small pockets in the mould that would be hard to clean dust and particles from. The soda is water soluble. But I think the walnut would strip better if it is not too intricate a mould.
