Re: Blasting Cars

Glen,

Don't forget to say, “ all metals should be prepped according to the manufactures specifications before paint is applied!”

Even if walnut did leave an oily that you can’t see, baking soda leaves a film, glass leaves dust…..

Anything blasted leaves something on the surface. It must be cleaned before paint!

So don’t fall for a sellers buy in talk.

Re: Blasting Cars

They stock it but happen to be out of it at this time. The cob is much cheaper. I cant find any vids of anyone blasting it. I just wanted to see how it compares to walnut on cars.

Re: Blasting Cars

I found that the walnut was bulkier that glass in my pot when I tryed it.
had to make major grit adjustments to get it to run right. after it was fine and performed good.

I wonder if the cob is light weight, and how it will flow.

let us know how it worked out for you.
please give some specs on how much it does sqft per bag on cars.
I'm looking for a different media in shop instead of soda. (Dust wise)

Re: Blasting Cars

That is quite true Jim. We all must stress that we do not make things "paint ready" we make them ready for the painting procedure to begin.

Side note on that agreement. I looked in to getteing it printed on the back of the invoice and it's about $140. more. I just made copies of it and keep one signed on file for regulars and hand one to customers who only need to sign the invoice which says they got one. 500 two part from Staples was $100.

I've been handing them out to, I just had a guy that watched me blast through a window. I kept stopping and showing him the filler and rust.
And even that he says it might have warped a little.... But he signed first. HA HA.
He was fine with it, but if someone dropped it off it could have been bad.
The paper work makes me feel better, and it brings up questions that customers don't think of normally.

Re: Blasting Cars

I really think you all should try starblast and while you are at it scoop it up pour it through a screen and reuse it....there is no better way to make your margin better than not buying media all the time....trust me

Re: Blasting Cars

I use starblast for all most all of the cars I do, it's fast, reuseable and fairly cheap about $15 for 50# it cut's through paint, rust, body filler, undercoating and just about everything else but leaves a very fine and totally white finish, there have been certain parts that I could not use the starblast on (very thin panels that you can push with your fingers) and for those I use plastic (also reuseable) I have one paint booth that I blast in so changing media is a pain, so I try to find medias that will do the most jobs.

Re: Blasting Cars

Dan from IDS was on his way to Ohio today and dropped off the cob I ordered at no charge. He also gave me a few bags of the Powerblast to try out. I'm not sure what it cost. I can find out for you or you can call them and ask. IDS in Indianapolis or call Opta direct. I didn't know it was the same as star blast. It is red colored and 7-7.5 hardness. Probably can be recycled several times but not sure. I am still learning about all of this stuff.
