Aluminum Truck Cab

I have a Kenworth Truck with an Aluminum cab. I want to rmove all the paint but don't want to rough up the metal. Any thoughts as to the type material to be used.

Is there anyone in CT that could do this?

Re: Aluminum Truck Cab

baking soda = 2 step process (blast and rinse)
Chemical = 3 step process (Applying chemical, scraping, and rinsing)
Both methods are messy.
Just my thoughts!

Re: Aluminum Truck Cab

I did call 4 contractors from the yellow pages. Each one said ***X was the only way to go and dismissed other ways of blasting on aluminum. None would come out to do it.

Plastic and glass bead will also work. cheaper than soda but the plastic will have to be contained and reclaimed.

Re: Aluminum Truck Cab

Not crushed glass on this. Glass bead. This is what I have learned. It is not angular therefore no cutting action. The beads explode when they hit the surface, just like soda. That is what removes the coatings, the explosion. Neither has a cutting action (very minimal if any) that is why the surface remains smooth. Personally I have not used glass beads or plastic. I did come across a guy that uses both media to refurbish delicate antiques. Seemed to be a lot of blasting though. He used one to remove the coatings and rust and the other to put a polish finish.
