Re: 600# Pot Recommendations
Todd there is no regulator, you'll need to add one some where in line.
I think the plumger needs at least 50 psi to work? check the paper work. Granger has a 120 or 150 psi, 1" nipple, ? cfm? regulater I think I paid $120 ? + SH I think??? maybe less... Nice Pot size, My old employer had that same size, its nice but my truck is only so big. You will really like the on / off. Grit adjustment takes a bit to set, (Its a fine adjust.) but once done it is the cats meow. I made a mark on the knob of mine so when it needs ajusting I can see where it was. Good luck with it, I love mine. keep us posted on how it works for you!

Re: 600# Pot Recommendations
yes there is no regulator?why leave off something so crucial?i am not dissatisfied to the least bit with my purchase but i would think that is something that the guy designing says "here"..."we will start with this"...no sweat i was gonna blast with my regular setup any how tomorrow...
any one on the tightening of the quick lock on the whip?geeeze that thing was seriously giving me fit today... i am also gonna see about if i could order the screen ring with out the screen mesh...it is way to coarse of a mesh i believe...time will tell.

Re: 600# Pot Recommendations
What's the finer mesh for? Are you reusing. I never found that to work for me. The left over dust just clogs things up. It's not so much screening big stuff than the dust.
Todd I have a surface tek also. I had to solve a problem with the mixing rod. When I turn it somtimes the nut it goes into would spin so the rod was'nt going up or down for adjustment. I built a gadget to "back up" the nut to hold it in place.

Re: 600# Pot Recommendations
i have been reusing since i started up...and to be honest i cant understand why anyone that has a shop would not do the same...but i also use a media that can be reused over and over...i believe glass is shot once it is used....the finer mesh strains out the paint chips and little trash that i vaccum up at the end of the day...
glenn as far as my surface tek pot...i had a problem also and it was the cost and the frequent changing of the chamber and tips...i had the chamber machined and an insert made for the chamber.it is made from something like cpv50 or some kinda of hard metal...the tip is installed already and last forever

Re: 600# Pot Recommendations
tony, reference my photo above for what i did...i had a tip completely made out of a different material and the chamber is machined allowing a insert with the teflon ring to be loctite glued in once it wears then hit it with a torch and the insert falls out and then glue another insert in...once i get all the bugs and details worked out i am sure i will be marketing them to sell...i wont be getting alot of repeat customers though as the stugg they are made from is tough as nails...i just received the chamber and insert only a few days ago from my buddy and i have not stuck one in yet but soon...i actually begged steve at surface tek to call my buddy and have him do this but he never got around to it...instead they just keep selling you the trash that they have made there in town and it sucks all the profit out of the job when you are replace the consumables as often as they need to be changed....but they dont care..
jim, i just want the band that goes around the pot not the whole thing...i already have a sheet of the proper mesh from my last funnel for my surface tek pot...i can make the band also but i figure why screw with it if my sales girl wants to hook me up then why not let her.... and as far as the coupler...it is just super hard to get them to twist together and lock i will screw with it in the morning...blasted powder coated boat parts all day and was dead tired when i left...i will hopefully get some media in the pot tomorrow and squeeze the trigger and let you know how i like it...

Re: 600# Pot Recommendations
UPDATE 12/20/2009
DO NOT DO THIS MODIFACATION !! THE HOSE COMES ON BY ITSELF SOMTIMES!! SORRY, IT IS UNSAFE!!!!! Jim Dyer Todd, You may find this handy to add to your Marco blast pot, by placing a small ¼” shut off under the Max valve, you can shut off your grit and blow down your projects within seconds. We do this every time we end blasting to clean out the blast hose.

Re: 600# Pot Recommendations
Anyone know if there is a modification for a surface tek to stop the media flow and just blast air? I put a call in to surface tek about it but Steve has been out for a few weeks.

Re: 600# Pot Recommendations
Glen, I'm not sure how the surface tek pot works.
the marco has a normaly closed mixing valve, so by shutting off the air at the spliting point it allows the air to open the dead man valve but not the mixer. is the tek pot set up simular to the marco. ? how about a ball valve between the mixing valve and bottom of tank. my old pot had this set up and worked good. I'll post pics later.?

Re: 600# Pot Recommendations
Don't laugh, well go ahead..
this thing is old and used, but it made a ton of money with little over head.Ya gotta start some were! I modified this thing well over 3 fold. but the best thing was the ball valve ( it was just for on/off, not to meter the grit) and like at my old job. they had a quick release on it to drop the mixer valve to clean it out. But I got to say my NEW MARCO kick's it's A$$!

Re: 600# Pot Recommendations
You know I have no idea how that part works on mine. I'm going to talk to Steve from s tek tomorow and see what he thinks about it. Right now I have to trace an electrical problem first. The media flo just stoped all together two days ago. I havn't had time to sit and figure it out yet.

Re: 600# Pot Recommendations
Glen is your the same as Todds blue one, that is pictured in the above post?
if so I think the handle on top lifts up, and lets the grit start? Find which of the two little air lines makes it go up and put a ball valve in line to cut air psi to it.?

Re: 600# Pot Recommendations
You are right on Jimmy baby. I just talked to Steve about it that's what we came up with. I want to get a diverter valve though so I don't have the air back up and hurt the valve. Otherwise I can just disconnect the hose when I need to. He said they turn the mix knob all the way down which works but you have to set the mix again each time.
